Local Country Bar Bands

Post by RamRod 1 »

Just wondering if there's a country scene around Altoona anymore. I wouldn't mind catching a basic country band doing old stuff like, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, George Jones, etc with maybe a pedal steel guitar. Any bars around that has that kind of stuff?

I have to find out where they are playing next, but my brother and dad have a band that throws in some country (Jerry Reed's East Bound And Down, a Vince Gill Song, I think some Cash, I gotta check their setlist out). The band is called Family Crest. Phil Macauley (The Elvis Impersonator) is in it too.

RamRod,

I have the place for you. Oct. 23rd a country band is coming into Loretto. They play there twice a year. Its at the Our Lady...blah blah building behind St. Michael's. They are a great country band!
They play Hank Williams Sr, Patsy Cline, Alan Jackson, Merle, Willie, Sarah Evans, Alabama, Zak Brown Band, Kentucky Headhunters, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cash, George Jones, Martina McBride, Gretchin Wilson and more.

It is a great variety of new and old country. They do some rock 'n roll too. They have two lead players, a steel player, acoustic, bass, drums, and two females singers.

If you are a fan of country music...this is the place to be.
They are called "The Country Gamblers."

I will post more info in a few weeks.

I just saw the Country Travelers last weekend at Canoe Creek State Park, playing their last show of the season there. If I heard correctly, they play the Ashville Inn every Wednesday night. They do a lot of old-school country, with a touch of gospel.

I play upright in an Americana band out of Johnstown called The Whiskey River Panhandlers. We do stuff like Hank Sr., Cash, Old Elvis, Buck Owens, and lots of original stuff. Come check us out sometime. Check out our page for shows. We are in the studio right now so we're not playing as much as over the summer, but we have a few shows left this year.

RiversFox, yeah, I played that Our Lady's.....Blah Blah place to a couple of times. Is that one of those dinner dance gigs that cost big bucks? Sounds like a great band.

Thanks Jim, Ashville's nice and close and hopefully eariler hours.

Floodcity: I heard about those bands and caught some of ol 97's sound clips. Thanks. I need to catch you guys too. I used to play with your drummer John in 1979.
