Weird typing thing.

Post by songsmith »

Okay, sometimes when I type a response on this site (Facebook does it too, occasionally), if I type a capitalized letter (hit "shift" and the letter simultaneously), my goddamned browser goes to the last page. It doesn't seem to do it every time, and sometimes I can type a long paragraph before it wipes me out. When it back-pages, anything I've written is gone when I return to that page.
Now, I know more than a few of you are happy I can't reply as much :wink: , but it's VERY frustrating, and the main reason I'm not as active here.
It seemed to have started with this new computer.
How do I fix it?--->JMS

What computer, operating system and browser are you using?
... and then the wheel fell off.

Gateway NV53 laptop, Windows 7, and IE8, I think. Sometimes I think it's just fate, telling me not to post crap. 8)
Incidentally, it also pages down if I touch the spacebar.--->JMS

It's your touchpad man. Thank god for Function-F9 to turn mine off (using wireless laptop mouse)

Heres how you can test it... hit reply on any page, 'accidentally' click outside the text box, for example to the black part to the right of it. Hit space. It'll jump down. If you press backspace, it'll go back a page (default commands in most browsers for page actions)

Just watch your touchpad man =) Or at least make sure you leave your cursor in the bottom right of the place youre typing, so if you accidentally click it just puts the cursor at the end of what youre typing.
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

That was probably it, Colton. When I bought it, I didn't realize the keys are slightly larger than normal... That was the only minus in the reviews I read about this laptop.
Thanks all.--->JMS

If this is on a laptop, then it more than likely is the touch pad. All you have to do is disable tap tap to click on it. I do that with all my laptops. They cause more pains than they are worth.

You can't help constantly bumping it with your palm causing it to mess things up... Me losing a three page report for school that I spent hours on, from the very issue, is what caused me to disable tap to click permanently ...

Or you can crank down the sensitivity on the touch pad so your palm can't activate it.

I've found that throwing the laptop through the nearest window with maximum force usually solves the problem.
Dood...
