Pickup wiring
Pickup wiring
Starting my winter project. Redoing a Peavey 5 string bass. Pulling out the active factory pups and installing a set of passive Basslines. I only want a single volume knob and a three way switch. Is there a benefit to a 500k pot Vs. a 250k? And how to wire it??? Google hasn't shown me yet! LOL! Any help would be appreciated!

The 500K vs 250K thing is going to be totally personal preference. The higher you go in resistance it shifts the resonant peak upwards (to a point) making things sound "brighter".
As far as wiring: I can get into great detail and walk you through the technique of doing it if you need (as well as some tricks of the trade that make things easier)
but
Stwemac has the diagrams you need if you just want a switch to control which pickup (neck-both-bridge style). Just omit the tone control on the first diagram and there you go. (as long as you don't need phase control, parallel-serial, etc).

Here's my winter project from about 4 years ago and it's very close to yours. Two passive Seymore Duncan "Basslines", a single volume, and a 3 way toggle switch (Rickenbacker). I put in a 500k pot because the guy at Music Haven in Johnstown told me too. I made a "60's" Vox style body and bought a "60's" Vox neck on ebay. I chose the "basslines" because the neck is exceptionally narrow and most pick-ups with poles wouldn't line up and since the "Basslines" are "Soapbars"I knew that that would solve the problem. They work great and I have 3 distint sounds with the 3 pick-up positions.
