HOMEGROWN ROCKER 9/19/10 (FULL KILT)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the September 19 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

This was the show to break out the Guinness, the corned beef and cabbage, or in lieu of either of those, a simple bowl of Lucky Charms…This weekend marked the six-month midway point between that most Irish of holidays, St. Patrick’s Day. Since the show host and this week’s studio guests, local Irish rockers Full Kilt (www.myspace.com/fullkiltmusic), didn’t feel like waiting another six months, we dubbed this week’s show the “Midway to St. Patty’s Day Party.” We got our Irish up this week, and spotlighted not just Full Kilt, but a number of this region’s talented Irish-geared bands and artists. We debuted new songs from Corned Beef & Curry and Ceann, updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed Kilmaine Saints’ The Good, The Plaid, and The Ugly CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE CLOVER – “Kiss Me I’m Irish Today”
MISCHIEF BREW – “A Liquor Never Brewed”
FULL KILT – “Fat Bottom Girls”
CORNED BEEF AND CURRY – “Steelers Rock Steelers Roll”
FULL KILT – “Plastic Paddies” (performed live at Lakemont Park WingOff 8/26/10)
TREE – “Whiskey You’re the Devil”
FULL KILT – “Jameson Set”

HOUR TWO:

CEANN – “Moron with the Bodhran”
MICHAEL O’BRIAN BAND – “Whiskey in the Jar”
FULL KILT – “Star of the County Down”
KILMAINE SAINTS – “Wearing of the Green”
FULL KILT – “Fast As I Can”
DEAD IRISH BLUES – “Irish Volunteers”
FULL KILT – “Ride On”

Our next show will feature band guests Royal Benson. We’ll meet the band members and learn their story to date, hear tunes from their CD (long)Drive, and you’ll have chances to call in to win your own copy! We’ll also update “Local Music News,” dig a song from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review another local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Royal Benson on the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

Cambria County metal rockers The Defining Hour have announced the addition of a second lead guitar player, Roman Dell. The group is still searching for a bass player; anybody interested in auditioning for that position can contact The Defining Hour through their Myspace page or Rockpage.net.

Singer Tyler Hull has parted ways with Altoona modern rockers Spirit Lost, citing work schedule issues. For the interim, rhythm guitarist Austin Tepsic will return to the group’s lead microphone position. Congratulations to Spirit Lost lead guitarist Brian Smith, who tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend and fellow musician Chris Moser this past weekend.

Altoona area hair band favorites Hair Force One shot down the rumor mill during their show this past weekend at 30 Something. Singer Victor Synn announced that despite rumors, the show was not the group’s swan song performance, and that they intend to continue to bring the ‘80s “Decade of Decadence” to area stages. The group recently added a second guitarist, Dick, to the roster.

A few more details about next Friday night’s “Rock That Ink” benefit show at 30 Something…For every $10 raised, a phone calling card worth 1,000 minutes will be sent to American soldiers overseas to enable them to call home over the upcoming holiday season. Presented by Sin Sisters Promotions, the benefit will again feature performances from local bands Bad Daze and Mindspine, along with Super Bob from Washington, D.C.
