This has all become quite silly. Perhaps we should all take a break from the internet and make music.

Or go outside.

The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

We have done this twice in the past. However, they were at wedding shows because weddings do make up a good chunk of our summer gigs. A booth a wedding show in Johnstown cost in the neighborhood of $300 to $600. I turned out it was not worth it in our case. It's not to say that this would not work for a fair or festival.

Our best marketing is word of mouth or people that see us in person. I saw some recent posts about playing weddings. We have played at least 50 weddings in the past few years and hundreds of private and public events of all types. I believe that most people assume they get a DJ but then when they hear us, they change their mind and consider a band.

I'm not a fan of DJs because I can teach someone how to DJ an event in a short amount of time. It's not hard to teach someone how to use an
IPOD or DJing software on a PC. I'm sure I can teach someone to DJ in a weekend. However, it may take a lifetime to learn to become good at
an instrument. We as a band must be good at playing live music as well as emcee-ing.

With that said, a person still has a choice. I would like the customer to be *educated* about the differences and pros/cons of djs versus a live band. The choice is truly theirs. But I would like them to be educate about the differences between bands and DJs.
------------------------------------------------------------
------Live Band------
Pros:
-Makes your event more memorable.
-Makes your event more classy an unique.
-Way more connection with the crowd.
-More entertaining than a DJ (I will put my band up against any dj in an entertainment battle).
-Looks way better than a DJ wearing the cheesy tuxedo shirt. We draw the line there. No tuxedo shirts for this band. IMO the entertainment should not look like waiters.
-If people don't want to dance, they can sit and be entertained by a band.

Cons:
-Cannot play 30,000 different songs - however a band can play songs on a cd or ipod during breaks.
-Usually more expensive than a DJ
-Harder to control the volume in smaller rooms.
-Typically takes longer between songs than a DJ.
-Needs more room than a DJ.

------DJ------
Pros:
-Cheaper
-Can play many more songs.

Cons:
-Less Entertaining
-Makes the event less classy
-When people leave, they typically are not asking "Who was that fantistic DJ?"
----------------------------------------------------------

A person who wants more modern music (ie hip hop, techno etc) that bands typically do not play are better off with a dj. However, they should

keep in mind that this kind of music is not liked by all ages.

The music community has spoken.

Running with the pack is so bourgeois. I'm proud to be a lonewolf.

I suggest that the local music community and music scene are analagous to the end of the movie "Being There".

As a group of DC power brokers are acting as pall bearers for a fallen crony, they are whispering of support for Chance the gardener as the next President.

If you don't know about Being There or Chance the gardener, I suggest you rent the movie...it explains a great deal about modern society.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

I think it's time for this post to be deleted now lmao. football, hockey, and oreo's may have something in common with a dj. Can anybody think of what it may be?? I'd like to hear a few answers on that. just for giggles

The only bands that can compete with a DJ are really good cover bands, like Velveeta or Korruption. Other than that, I don't think they are even in the same ballpark as far as target audience goes.

DJ's tend to play a lot of stuff that i don't like along with a little that i do. the strength of a live band is that with the show you get a "theme". You know going in what type of music will be played...rock blues, metal etc i generally like 90% of what live bands plays because i chose you and your music by paying the cover
