Why are there DJ's advertizing on here. DJ's are not musicians. So why are we letting them advertize on here taking away possible jobs for bands. Lets take a vote and remove Dj advertizing from this site.

They all have something to do with live music. DJ's do not. They just play music that some else wrote, prefomed and played, and recored. They are not musicains... They also take away gigs from bands if the people are on here looking for a band and they see the DJ add and say less to worry about and claen up after. They need thier own site to advertize on ... Am I not right ???

DJ's at least play music. Most of the posts on this site are about whatever political party's crook, or puppet has to say that day. Or however bitching about politics on a local music site will change the world. If you guys haven't figured out that EVERY party is crooked in one way or another, I guess you'll never get it. I guess you guys forgot about titties, music and beer. And seriously.............get back on track because i'm sure that i'm not the only one on this site sick of the political shit. You guy's really need to leave the computer chair and get out of the house a little more often. Trust me............it'll do you good.

I have nothing against DJ's at all. My Daughter's wedding is being done by a DJ. It just seems funny to see the 2 of them looking for gigs on the same website. A DJ would get better known on a DJ site. Thats where my kid found hers. If the groom had his way we would be having live music.

Unfortunately my opinion of DJs is equal to my opinion of Republicans. They're only in it for the money.

Wow, what an interesting discussion. In this day and age of everything and everybody is equal. Can you spell hypocrisy? $$$$$$$

i agree with hawk. really this site is for those of us that actually play rock music. I know i am an old musician maybe the oledest on here but i thought this site was for musicians . Dj's have a right to do play recordings but to be thought of in the same light as people who actuallly learn , practice and perform is not what i think rock page is all about jerry c / white shaow / the beatle maniacs / www.ababyboomerslookback.com

I have to agree that it is a bit of a slap in the face to have DJs advertising on this site. I also think that if DJs were playing music from local musicians it would ruffle more feathers unless they were paying roalties to the local bands. I wonder how many of the local DJs are actually legit with regard to the BMI ASCAP fees for the music they are using.

This is obviously a sore subject for lots of musicians, but my thought / experience is that folks who come to hear live music are a bit of a different crew than those who frequent clubs that hire DJs. As for the wedding gig thing, I decided long ago that I would rather not!

I have no great love for portable DJs...in the late 70s I was a co-founding member of MAD...Musicians Against Disco;

however, if you read the Rockpage mantra on the home page, it says:

"We're doing our best to serve the local and regional music community here in Pa."

Are portable DJs a part of the regional music community? I'd say yes.

You can all get in the ring and hash that one out...but in the final analysis, Ron is the only person who definitely has the correct answer to that question here on Rockpage!

Quit bringing reason into this, Jeff! I want to see pitchforks and torches.

Leave it to lonewolf to quote the Rockpage constitution...!

Perhaps we need an amendment ?

I play in bands, and i also have confidence in my bands that we would always get shows when we wanted them. with this mentality could really give two shits less if a DJ is trying to get some jobs on here.
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

Sounds like somebody's jealous of a DJ gettin gigs! Well a few somebodies! Like those other guys said, this is a music site! bands play music and dj's play music! The same music at that! Dj's are a little on the up side as how many bands can actually change up there whole set what they play depending on the crowd and venue??? Yes there is some that can do it but MOST of them can't! I prefer bands then dj's but really, who cares? atleast it's about music instead of animals, washers for sale, or politics

I see nothing wrong with a DJ advertising on here. Then, my opinion means shit to anyone but me.

At the Cambria County Fair earlier today, I saw a deejay service that bought table space inside one of the vendor buildings, hawking their services and advertising to folks walking by. Several teenagers were dancing to the music and light show they had set up.

It begs the question: Could some area bands purchase table space at this or other area fairs/festivals, and advertise their music and services? This might be a way to market and sell CD's, plus be seen by hundreds of visitors that walk past your table. Maybe several bands could join forces and buy a table.

Just a thought...

Nay, it's easier to bitch about how much the local scene sucks and blame it on the perceived lack of culture of the public.

What if the DJs play the same old tired songs that half the bands in the area play? Would that make it OK for them to advertise here or would that make them competition? Somebody asked about their ASCAP - BMI status: are you kidding? How many local bands pay those fees/royalties? If you really want to open the door of legality, how many local artists claim their true earnings for tax purposes? Any? Unless you have been commissioned and paid specifically to write a song, you're making money off of someone else's work. You're regurgitating it. What's the difference if you use a turntable or a guitar?
