Seems like another guy with nothing better to do than beat drums all day. Seriously, while his technique is obviously top-notch, I don't think any musician can be evaluated strictly solo. I've seen bands (and been in a few) with guys who can 'shred' like there was no tomorrow, but when it all comes down to it, that's only good for solos. Ringo always played something tasteful, that brilliantly complemented what else was going on. And he was a clock.

For my money, gimme Matthew McDonough from Mudvayne. Perfect blend of groove, speed, flash, and technicality. Tasteful time changes and back beats which don't detract from the song, or sound like an epileptic seizure on a drumkit. And everything he plays is interesting without being overly busy. Just a great UNDERRATED drummer.
To be only 16 years old & this kid being at that talent level is scary. He is amazing for sure. If he's not the world's best right now at what he does & I mean soloing, he probably will be someday. That video was off the charts!

My point is this... What are the criteria for being the worlds best drummer? There's no such thing. There are tons and tons of amazing drummers out there, how do you say who is the best? Some guys are amazing at certain things. Some guys are well rounded. Some guys have all the chops. Some guys have all the groove. It's just a tough thing to say.
Yeah, I agree with the two posts above. If somebody says, "he's the best", that's only their opinion. The same thing applies to a panel of judges. It's what they "think". What I meant in my post was that Dylan could win many contests &/or awards if he continues to play at that level or even higher. Whoever is up against him might not come close to touching him in the judge's eyes & ears & he's only 16. Hey, I don't even know if there are such a thing as drumming contests/drum-offs, ect. Truthfully, I don't really care either. I guess my point is I "think" that kid did alot of amazing stuff in that video.

Everyone complains that there is no music threads on here, when one comes up it gets dissected for the content that it holds. Yeah maybe favorite would have been a better way of wording it, but if everyone knows what author of the thread means, who cares.

I saw an incredible clinic by drummer Thomas Lang. He actually made me drop my jaw. Quite literally doing SIX different things at once. Right heel playing one thing while his right fore foot was playing something else on a different pedal at the same time. Same with his left foot. While each hand was playing something different. He blew me away !
He made this important comment :
"This kind of thing is fun for us (drummers), but don't EVER do this for an audition, you WON"T get the job !"
Two weeks ago I saw a clinic by drummer Billy Ward. I'm sure many drummers left disappointed as though, "Well I could do that". What Billy brought to the table was an incredible FEEL. His Groove and timing were inspiring and any musician would love to have that sound back them up at a gig ! It wasn't much about chops. It was all about good taste !

but if you listen to him play and understand that he is yelling the way he is while he is drumming some of those off beats. Its pretty crazy in my opinion.

but if you listen to him play and understand that he is yelling the way he is while he is drumming some of those off beats. Its pretty crazy in my opinion.
Hey man. I grew up up covering Bruford and Palmer. Prog rock was my forte. I was playing odd time signatures and mixed time signatures before anyone listening knew what the hell it was. I was listening to and playing King Crimson before anyone understood "Schizoid Man". Mahavishnu Orchestra was in my hands in vinyl, cassette before CDs existed. I looked down on the likes of Bonham as he was too simple and boring. I was a damn drummer snob. Then I matured.
