Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the August 1 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).
With no guests scheduled, we again took the opportunity to get caught up on new recordings that have arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted plenty of new tunes; from Fourth River, Royal Benson, The Taken, Nathan Veshecco, Fiction Fair, Johnny Action Figure, Maddam Ink, Object Permanence and Throdl. We took the opportunity to “Cross State Lines” and feature a song by Houston, Texas rockers American Fangs (who perform in the Altoona area Aug. 10); and dug into the archives for a 1985 song by XL for a “Local Music Flashback.” We also updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed Face Down In High Water’s self-titled CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” As promised, we delivered maximum local and regional music!

In Local Music News…
A new Altoona area band will debut on stage next weekend. Johnny Danger unites four established musicians: Longtime keyboardist and singer Adam D, former Verge drummer Steve Brulia, former Flight 19 bassist Tim Kelly and guitarist Greg Larrimore. Johnny Danger performs ‘80s, ‘90s and modern rock, and will debut next Saturday night at Altoona’s Belmar Hotel.
Harrisburg-based techno-dance music artist Jamison and his project The Programaddicts landed a song on television. The Programaddicts’ song “Cool Like You” was featured in a party scene during an episode of E! Entertainment’s new show The Glades. Last year, another Programaddicts song, “City Girls,” was placed in the Miramax motion picture Adventureland.
The annual Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering will take place September 10-12 at Greenwood Furnace State Park. The Gathering features three days of workshops, concerts and jams. Musicians of all instruments and levels are welcome, and there are also options for singers, dancers, and non-musicians. Some 45 workshops feature topics ranging from old time tunes to shape note singing to how to learn by ear and more. Jam sessions will take place throughout the weekend.
