And after you discovered it was a political thread, you read it because...?

Judging from your first post, you collected enough info to make a post.

I like it, I read it. You don't like it yet you read (at least some of) it ? Trophy goes to...you.
Well actually by the time I got to reading this I noticed Jeff was the last to post. His posts are typically interesting and I tend to read most of them. So there ya go....I may have won a trophy....but at least I'm not the one on the podium with slobber on his chin.

Any more questions?
How can you think someone can seriously live off min wage???? Come on now.
They "get by" cause they prob have gov't assistance in addition to the min wage paying job. I thinks its funny when people pay min wage and act like they are helping people out. Try paying a decent wage once. So many places around here DO NOT pay above min wage unless its a nickle or dime over min wage, and then business owners avoid providing jobs that offer insurance. Yeah, youre helping people out all right.
I would much rather see my hard earn taxes help someone who is working at least even if they are only earning min. wage. Funny thing...we pay our bartenders $5.15 an hour. Above the wages set by govt. for their job....our bartenders earn much more than that with their tips (and yes, they do have to claim their tips and pay taxes on them..yell at the govt for that not me).

So, it is better for someone not to work at all and live totally on govt assistance than to at least work part-time earning some money???? Wow, why haven't I thought of that a long time ago.

Next time you go to a restaurant or bar, you better tip well because chances are that those poor folks serving you are only getting min. wages and use govt. assistance to supplement.

It would be better if businesses paid more than min wage alltogether. Especially if they truly care about their people. All the places ive worked at in PA have all paid min wage, then gives out a dime as a raise. Youve gotta be kidding me...how is someone gonna make it on that??
Before I came to PA in 2005, I hadnt made min wage since I was 16 yrs old. Back home in frederick, even mcdonald's pays around 9$ an hr.
Business owners wonder why the turnover rate for employees is so bad. One huge reason is people tired of making such little money. All sorts of local places where I am are plagued with losing people. That should tell them something.

$5.15 x an 8 hour shift =a whopping $41.20  Sure, they may make a night of good tips here and there but I would bet most nights aren't nothing to get excited about. How can anybody survive on that?

But when you are also earning tacos, that $41.20 goes quite a long way due to not having to buy as much food.

You still haven't answered my question. If the rich are making more money than ever (as you stated) from their businesses and investments, where are all the jobs ? .
This is a very simple answer. The top 10 companies on the Fortune 500 are sitting on more than a quarter trillion in cash reserves. THEY HAVE MONEY TO HIRE PEOPLE, BUT DON'T. Why not? Because they're making excellent cabbage with the skeleton crew. Why hire additional workers, and pay them benefits, when you can simply work your existing people harder? This is only one of the fallacies of conservative economic theory, that when business can afford it, they automatically hire more people. Nonsense. If they DO hire people, they look overseas first, because those people work cheap. Helping employees live a life has never been a part of any mission statement I've ever read, and has never been shown in practice. Business is not about helping or providing for it's workers, it's about the difference between what is being paid out, and what's being brought in: PROFIT at any cost to anyone but the profiteer. When was the last time you saw the boss's paycheck? He sees yours, though. He knows exactly what you make, because he decided it. It's usually the absolute least amount you'll accept to keep working for him. During hard times, he doesn't decrease his check, not until after he eliminates yours... he may even get a BONUS for eliminating yours.
This deification of the so-called Prosperity Class is dangerous, and flat-out brown-nosing. Licking the boot that's stepping on your throat... it might be okay for the tightie-righties, but I have my own mind.--->JMS

These are quotes from sstuckey in this thread.
Can anyone define hypocrite *?

When are ANY of you gonna learn? All these political posts do, is cause arguments amongst people that have 0 chance of fixing anything!!!

Everyone has an opinion on what's wrong and what's right. And those opinions are just that, opinions. You'd think a website created for musicians and music lovers, would have more posts about I dunno.....ummmm music....and less about this kinda crap that not one of us can do a f'in thing about!! Stop the hatred....can't we all just get along?

Actually buddy it's more like watching the special olympics. No matter who wins or who loses everyone gets a trophy but in the end everyone is still retarded.

Pretty niave here....We pay them $5.15...however, there would NEVER EVER EVER a time that they would leave making less than the $7.25. Laws say that. But, our bartenders average around $12 an hour on slow weeks. There are shifts that they can come in and put in 5 hours and walk out with $100 in cash plus what we pay in their checks. They are also paying into their unemployment, social security, etc. We are also paying into it for them.

We pay a large amount of payroll taxes based on the wages paid. Someone who makes min. wage (for example, as most of our employees make much more), it costs us the $7.25 for each hour plus another $6 in taxes and insurances (workmen's comp). So, the min we pay per employee per hour is $13.25. We have about 250 hours of labor each week. We have 11 people who are happy to have a job. We have positions for two more.

How many times have you given someone money out of your personal finances to help them out of a bind because their car broke down and they needed it to make it to work?

You tell me I don't help others by giving them work.....crap on your face. But when you buy your own business that has 11-13 employees, then you can talk trash about paying people what you deemed as Min. Wage.

Oh, and if you ever complain about paying $2.25 for a beer and don't bother leaving a tip....make sure you only get one beer...because if I'm your bartender, you will be waiting a long time for your second.

So many people want everything given to them. They can work part-time and still get some of their unemployment benefits. Why not work? Maybe they don't have time to work when they are out camping, playing with their four wheelers, or on their boat fishing.

I personally don't have time to do those things because I choose to work a 40 hour week for the University, then work another 35 at the business so we can keep it opened and hire 11-13 other people.

First of all,you didn't say you made sure the employee made at least min. wage, you said they make $5.15/hour plus tips. And I never said that you didn't help others by giving them work,I was just stating $5.15/hour don't add up to very much in 8 hours, especially if it's a slow night.

117 replies, and 1731 views on this thread. Far more than any music-related thread I can remember in the near past. What can we gather from that?

Ya want music threads to compete? ...get an alternate account, call it NO RETREAT and promote LA_ZE_RZ and EN_ER_GY.

Of course, you'd need to treat the music threads as you do conservative political posts...

This is why all political threads are stupid! Arguments turn into personal attacks all the time. You all love politicians so much, why dont you learn how to debate/argue like one! They dont call eachother names and rip on eachother like you guys do here. Atleast not in public. ;)

Its a well known fact that some people get on eachothers nerves here during political threads. Some of these same people said theyd never post anything political again. That should show you how much of a dangerous subject anything political is. I think its an addiction worse than heroin for some people. Dont they have forums for you to argue over this stuff??? Arent there any forums dedicated to your political party of choice?

If someone came into the studio to record, and then started going on a political rant, id nicely say "hey man, we're here to record some great music, lets not ruin the experience by talking about politics."
WHY? Because its not the time OR place to battle over things that we have no control over. Not to mention, I have NO interest in politics. :D

To sum everything up:
YOU CANT CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT OR ITS POLICIES NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU BITCH ON A MUSIC FORUM.

This isnt directed to anyone specific, more of a general thing.
