well why didn't you find a job immediately...why were you compelled to "milk it out"RobTheDrummer wrote:When I collected unemployment, I milked it out. When it was about to run out, guess what I did? I found a job, imagine that...Oh and it wasn't a great job, but it got me by. Don't even give me this no jobs bullshit either.
RobTheDrummer wrote:if you keep giving people free money, they are going to keep taking it and not looking for work.
you mean like milking it out?
because displaced workeres are milking out UC benefits?RobTheDrummer wrote:Thus the unemployment rate will stay up
because they are milking it out.RobTheDrummer wrote:There are jobs out there, just people aren't willing to work.
sorry rob, but i gotta bust your balls on that.
i do agree with you on that. think for a minute...someone who works a good paying job, buys a decent house...nothing too fancy just in a decent neighborhood where he doesn't have to worry about crackheads from brooklyn breaking into his house. he buys a decent pre-owned truck. not too expensive...payments are just right and he can use it for work. this man is not living outside of his means. he gets laid off from a job he worked at for over 30 years, but he can collect unemployment. things get a bit tighter financially, but he's paying his bills. he's in his mid-50's and alot of jobs he's applied for overlook him for age. does this man not deserve an extension. or should he go work at burger king for $7 an hour and hope to just "work his way up". in the meantime he can watch everything he worked for for most of his life slip away.RobTheDrummer wrote:Some people, well most people live well beyond their means.

You can come up with different scenarios all day, but really the intent of unemployment is to hold you over until you find something. If you've been on unemployment for a year, then you aren't looking hard enough. Here's a scenario, how did America become a great country? Was it because of unemployment benefits?
But Rob, why is it that you NEVER complained about unemployment benefits being extended before , Like when it was the regular thing under the Bushes ?
Why were you (plural) including Frank, never worried about paying for things before, like the Bush war ? The tax cuts ? ETC. . Why now and not then ?
Just a question for which I currently have no answer. Should some one who lost a good job and has a family to take care of and is making house payments, take a minimum wage job (usually offered as "part time" ) ? Or spend his time looking for a good job ?
Remember, industry left and ain't commin' back.
Rob, you talk about working your way up. To what ? What's there today for several million workers to work up to ?
BTW, Prisons are one of our few rising industries. Should they be privatised so we can save billions of dollars ? Help reduce Federal, State, and County deficits ? If that happens Rob, do you think you'll find a job quickly enough of nearly equal income ? Would you reject unemployment benefits for a job at McDonald's ?

Do you realize how many people died in early American history because they lost everything ? Modern society takes care of it's own.RobTheDrummer wrote:You can come up with different scenarios all day, but really the intent of unemployment is to hold you over until you find something. REALLY? I have been unemployed for almost a year and anyone that knows me and some of you do very well, know that I am a hard worker and been trying to find work. I have done some temporary positions but not scored a REAL job. All of us payed our taxes and paid into it that are on Unemployment so really we are just getting our money back that we already EARNED! I know of a couple more RPers that just recently scored jobs after over a year without one. You gonna sit and tell them they don't deserve something for the work they already did and that their families should just be out on the street because you think it took them too long to find work? I wont say there isn't "some" that just want to collect free money but dont put ALL the people that are on Unemployment in that category and think that your not gonna piss off somebody.RobTheDrummer wrote:If you've been on unemployment for a year, then you aren't looking hard enough. ?

How in hell is taking care of those (about 10+%) who need some help go all the way to taking care of everyone ? Silly Beck type rhetoric.RobTheDrummer wrote:How about the government just gives us everything we need and we'll all be happy little family sucking at the gov't teet. Sounds good to me.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that's what GW did with Clinton's surplus, he wrote checks out to everyone in the USA. Rob, did you complain when you got yours ? Did you start any thread asking how it would be paid for ?
Rob, I dont often post on here but this topic caught my attention. Trust me it is not as easy in this economy as you think to just "man up" and get a job. Before I started back to college on TRA training, I had applied to numerous places for almost a year and half and got nowhere.
Fine you can say take a McDonalds job. I guess I will just throw my house away since I am sure in this economy wouldnt even be able to sell it quick enough. I have found it so easy for someone on the outside looking in to say all types of things about those unemployed for awhile.
Face the facts that why the government should extend the benefits is that alot of the job loses are the governments fault anyway by signing agreements that have allowed so many jobs to be shipped out of the country.
Just because some long term unemployed are just riding the system dont lump everyone together. And trust me I hope and pray that they do get this extension through so I can concentrate on my schooling and not keeping my family above water for the next 6 months while I finish.

Hit the nail right on the head for me. I'll be laid off indefinitely next Friday, for the second time in a year. I have 2 kids, mortgage payment, car payment, thankfully I don't own a credit card, and we're kitting and shipping all our parts to China so they can start building machines for the Indo-asian market. That's what the company is claiming. Then went onto say that if the plant can't keep up with the demands (which there aren't any) that China will pick up the slack. Haha...wonder what that means...Hawk wrote: Picture yourself with a couple of kids, a mortgage payment, car payment and the other payments that go with raising a family. THEN lose your job because it has moved to China.

Unemployment is a good thing to a certain degree. Ive never had it , so I dont know how good it is. Its put there to help people between jobs. Alot of people do "milk it" because they can. Why the hell is someone gonna go look for a job when they are paid to sit on their ass? THATS why people milk the unemployment. Then when its gonna end, they try to get a job. When its hard to find a job, thats when they wanna bitch about needing more time and money. Why not plan ahead? Instead of waiting until the last WEEK of the unemployment check to find a job, look a little sooner. Especially if you have all these things you "Need" to pay for. Doesnt that make more sense??
Speaking of things people"need" to pay for, people in general should slow down on buying new cars, buying houses and having kids!!! If the "family life" is what you want, make sure you actually can afford to have that. Dont do things just because you can or because thats what others are doing. Open a savings account (and actually put money into it) to save money and let that be your buffer in case anything bad happens. Why is it the government's job to have to pay for things you got yourself into?
It sucks when people lose their jobs unexpected, which is why the unemployment system is good. I just think we all spend too much that we dont have and procreate way too much.
I was not speaking about anyone specific, its just a general rant on the subject. I guess you can apply the same rant to a welfare debate.

THIS is "manning up" ! Frank, you too. I am happy to see men try and take care of their families and get re-educated in order to get another job.jb31dtr wrote:Rob, I dont often post on here but this topic caught my attention. This, is why I mentioned your name. Rob seems to think everyone who collects is lazy. What you say here is going on by the millions throughout the US.f.sciarrillo wrote:Why is my name coming up in this? I try to stay out and you drag me in !!

"As for looking for work - I been looking for four months. I sent out over 100 resumes, not one place has called. On top of that I am still going to school. So the uc helps me concentrate on my studies and not have to worry about where my next pay check is going to come from. "

Did you even read these Rockpage posts ? These guys have been looking and have been turned down. And that's going on across the US by the millions.

You can say you've been there before, but up until recently there were alot of different places to go for jobs.
Look how many large employers have totally closed up just in Bedford and Blair counties in the last few years without anything to replace them. Now for each open job they are flooded with applications so it is hard to even get an interview.

Yeah he was. I didn't watch it all, but I did see that part and it was interesting how he blasted the White House for her getting fired. He kept saying that she shouldn't have been fired because she was telling of experiences she had, and then found the wrong with them and corrected them.Hawk wrote:That's funny because I just watched the Beck show (no, not the whole thing) and the topic at the top of your link was what I saw on his show, "Context Matters".
I missed it yesterday, was Beck really on the girl's side ?

weird
Weird ass shit going on here in my America.
Seems to me that we need to find people jobs that they like and care about.
Seems like NAFTA backfired and all the greedy whores send our jobs overseas to make more cash! Tax them! at 80%, that will change the fucking deficit!
Get rid of death row, an eye for an eye. Make it suck to go to jail.
Gotta say though that FAUX news is scary now, talk about spreading hate. They say things like "Come and see the stupid black woman spread hate in a very small part of her story. We will show you just what we want you to see and you decide?"
WTF are we doing to each other? Why so much hatred from both sides? Seems pretty fucked up to me....
Gotta say that I agree with the UE bene's but we need to eliminate "Cultural Welfare". How do we do that though?
