Rockin' the Walk for the Youth Instrument Drive

Post by Banned »

Well, this is something I have been lead to do off and on for a couple of years now. I've built "FrankenFender" guitars...just to give them away to kid's I come in contact with. Until recently, I was collecting donated practice amps, guitar/bass parts, pretty much ANYTHING I can get my hand's on. I felt the need to DO this because I know what it was like to be a kid and want a guitar...and I didn't actually have one until I built one...wasn't great, but it worked and it was mine....I gave that guitar away to a 13 yr old kid whose dad is doing time and mom is never home....the look on that kid's face was the priceless look of shock and gratitude...warms my heart.

Now, I guess i want to ask my fellow ROCKERS for some help because I have kid's from here to Bedford that cannot afford to buy. I'm not asking for hand outs...just tid bits...things to work with ANY HELP is greatly appreciated. Even the FREE guitar lesson for some kid's would help out...Anyone else with any idea's? Come on Board, I could use the help...ROCK the WALK Brothers and Sisters!!!

best of luck on this i like your idea every kid needs music in there life. My boy is four and I'm trying to get him started on drums. Every bass player needs a good drummer figured it would be fun for practice when he picks it up.

That's an AWESOME idea Steve! I'd have to go look through my junk to see if I've got anything worth donating. Not so sure right now, but if I find something, I'll let you know!

Well, like I said before...When I was a kid, it was a pipe dream to have a bicycle ...let alone a guitar. But as soon as I could get my own...I did. Some kid's aren't as fortunate and I feel that...So with that...THANKS EVERYONE!!

Hey. I'm still in the Pittsburgh area, but I think I have a keyboard back in Altoona that I probably won't use anymore. Would that help out?

Maybe if there's some kids in my area I can give some piano lessons to them. Let me know if you know of anyone.

Steve, I think a good idea would be to have someone else help and inventory all the things collected and when they are given away. Just to ensure things are done right. ;)

I think its a good idea, but I think it should be very organized. I dont have any extra parts or anything to donate. I doubt studio time would benefit kids learning to play. Im not sure what I could offer.
