Microsoft Windows
... sucks my left testicle; not to be confused with my right one. Really, why would anyone run this shit? Cause its 'standard' and you don't know any better?
RAWR!~
I wish there was a man named Mr. Microsoft Windows that I could sucker punch about 3000 times. Twice
Per day....

sucks
Windows does not suck nearly as bad as the days of DOS. Also having the different platforms and software non compatibility.
I always think people who hate windows should run LINUX (choose your flavor) and there is always APPLE.
I know that people sometimes have issues with Windows but overall I think they do a good job. They are supporting literally hundreds of chipsets and devices and the OS still seems to run...
But to each his own...

Windows is just fine for me. I like it. Everything i use only works with windows. more specifically windows xp. I have a mac laptop, and I HATE mac os. the laptop just sits there looking stupid. to me it is ass backwards. prob because im a windows user.
I only really use the computer for audio stuff....ok.. and internet porn.
I stick with what is stable and performs the best for me.
I dont know why its the "cool" thing to run linux. barely anything is compatible with it.
winderz expee fer me.

Re: sucks
Yeah, those new Lambo's will tear the doors off my 51 ford coupe, but apples and oranges... Actually, i learned to read/write with DOS. Still have my '86 Tandy SX1000 in working order.tornandfrayed wrote:Windows does not suck nearly as bad as the days of DOS.
Anyways, If people want something 'idiot proof', id much rather see new pc's packaged with some sort of debian or ubuntu with a gnome or kde...
It's way too standard anymore. Everyone runs windows. People make virii. Guess for what? Debian Etch!!!! (buzzer), wrong... windows, because every fucking tard in the world has it. (no offense to any f'n tards)
I could show you uptime/mem usage/cpu/bandwitdth/heat charts, but i doubt anyone would get it, or let alone care. Windows is what youre used to, you'll use & love it until it completely bites everyone in the ass.

I remember going from a 286 DOS machine with no hard drive to a 486 with 3.1 and thinking that was the shit. I remember the word processing program I used with the 286. It wasn't WYSIWYG at all! Bold type was represented by green lettering. *lol*

Here here, I run xp too. No problems for over a year with mine. Although it never see's the internet.FourthDimensionAudio wrote:Windows is just fine for me. I like it. I still have my DOS disks and Windows 3.11, win 95, 98, 98se, melinium, and ect.
I love my Mac (Snow Leopard), but I really like Windows 7, too. In fact, in most ways, I like Windows 7 better. It (W7) works incredibly well as a media server for all of the computers in my house. It's blazing fast, stable, and it has that great window snap feature, too.
In comparison, XP now feels terrible to run. Going from XP to windows 7 is much like the difference I felt when upgrading from 98 to XP. It's leaps and bounds ahead.
If you haven't adopted Windows 7 yet, you are missing out.

I tried Windows 7 and really liked it. Im sure most of my audio stuff would work with it...BUT..when I tried it...my Motu 8Pre and Win7 didnt like eachother too much. I emailed Motu but never got a reply. I looked for fixes online, and saw that alot of people who used firewire interfaces had issues. It has something to do with windows 7 having some kind of new software for their FW bus controller from what I gathered. I tried updates and fixes but nothing worked. So i Guess I can assumes its Motu's issue with Win7. Back to XP i went, but it not bad for me because everything works that way. It was a no brainer I thought. Maybe one day Ill try it again to see if the issue was really fixed.

Hey
Motu's do not like nothing but intel chips on the motherboard. So if your motherboard hes n'vidia chips this could be a problem too. I know the Motu 24 i/o is like that. There are alot of interfaces that don't like n'vidia chips. So if you are having problems and cannot fiquure out whats wrong check in this problem. I have a TAscam 1641 and it don't like n'vidia. I had to buy a Belkin usb 2.0 pci card to run the tascam on my old computer. That was 1 fix for have n'vidia chips. So when I biult my new computer I made sure it had intel chips. First time I hooked up and ran it the tascam worked fine.

and don't forget...It's far less expensive compared to MAC... supports more apps and hardware than those "other" guys linux... as for debian, unix, bsd, plan 9 or anyone else... who the hell even knows how to use that shit unless your a techy... try selling it to a client... doesn't work very well because they typically only know microsoft anyhow... I don't necissarily like that they dominate the way they do but it's for a reason... it's the best choice.
as for firewall appliance's (where the end user doesn't deal with it) unix and linux are the shit.. they rule this market in my opinion... especially with small medium size business and home user appliances.. any how... i couldn't probably rant for a while but i'm sure i've said enough to get somebody fired up ... wasn't trying to though.... just stating my opinion..

Windows 7 and Windows Vista are the best os's that MS has come out with. I really enjoy them both. Never had a problem with either of them. They worked perfect, for me, right out of the box. I am looking forward to windows 8, that is supposed to really kick some serious butt.
Don't get me wrong about MAC's I like those also, I just can't justify the cost for one. Although when I go Best Buy I drool of the macbook pro. That is a sweet pc.
I played with all the Linux, unix flavors over the years. the new Ubuntu is really nice, then my personal favorite has always been fedora. I am thinking about taking an old pc I have and putting that on it.
Thing big picture here is that you will never see anything over take windows as the standard. It has been the standard since Bill Gates stole it from xerox.
As for starting my trek with PC's. I was a commodore 64 that was my first joy. I still remember the "load "*",8,1" ...
