B. Hussein recieved most BP cash in last 20 years
FS, I thought it's not the government's role to interfere in the affairs of business? I thought it was all about less rules for these BP yay-hoo's? I thought it was Drill, Baby, Drill?
So, not only is BidBadO wrong for interfering, he's also wrong for not... interfering.
Apparently, we've found out what government's role is, for conservatives: a safety net for foreign corporations.
This problem belongs to British Petroleum (UK), Trans Ocean (Switzerland) and Halliburton (Dubai).--->JMS

I don't doubt that for a millisecond. Unfortunately, our service men are not trained in putting out oil fires. Aside from that, from what I've seen, it takes a lot of balls to put out a raging oil fire. I also haven't seen anyone suggest another company that could handle the job.hannible wrote:My friend was there in Iraq when the wells were put out ! This is the same thing that happen in the Gulf in 1979 - Look it up. The same ways of trying to stop it, the same talk and the same actions of deceit.
As for the government sticking their noes into the big oil. I do agree that they should stay out of it. But in some cases, like this one - where it will effect thousands, if not millions of people they should have some sort of regulation on. None of them did that. This is just another example of how money gets you past the gate.
And as of last night, Obama still has done nothing with it. Like his usual stances he will just play basketball, go on vacation, play golf, have another white house dinner, or apologize to foreign countries again. No wonder his approval rating is 40% now (That is worse than Bushes was by the way).

This is so typical of a avid fox viewer. You say that the government needs to keep a distance from our lives and businesses, then when something goes wrong you turn to the government that could have control of the situation from the start and you ask for there help.
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

Let me set this record straight right now - I have always been and always will be for regulations of something bigger than most, especially when it will affect a lot of people. It has nothing to do with a Fox news response. Nice try .. .Flaw wrote:f.sciarrillo wrote:As for the government sticking their noes into the big oil. I do agree that they should stay out of it. Get the Freaking Government out of OUR lives until I (with a capital I) need / want their help! Then they just plain suck because they're not there quickly enough!
And cut down all the damn regulations on big business, unless something catastrophic happens! Then why wasn't there any oversight ? !
The States have all these rights, don't tax us, we (states) take care of ourselves. BTW Where is the federal government, aren't they supposed to take care of this for us ?
No Taxation! I want...and I want... and I want... and I want...And quit that damn spending!
I dare any politician to lay out all the things he'll take away in order to cut spending. Tea Party Candidates, where's your list? Conservatives, where's your list. BTW this "throw down" is only for candidates. We already know Joe wants everything taken away and Frank doesn't like slackers.

The blame for this accident lies on BP, not the President. I'm not a big fan of President Obama, but I can't blame this on him. I didn't blame Hurricane Katrina on Bush, and I won't blame this on Obama. When Katrina hit, the people that were told to leave chose to stay. That's not the President's fault. In this situation, President Obama isn't psychic. He had no way of knowing this would happen.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

I don't blame him for either, well fully anyhow; the thing I blame him for is how he is taking his good ole time to do anything about it.Merge wrote:The blame for this accident lies on BP, not the President. I'm curious: Why hasn't anything been mentioned about the people that were killed when the platform exploded?? I saw something online about this, I think it was on msnbc.com. The person that was being interviewed said that all anyone is concerned about is "the birds".

I believe the lack of information has something to do with the concerns of the surviving family members. Although I also believe that there are those who would like to keep it as hush as possible for the sake of their own asses.
Hawk, I share your enthusiasm for state's rights and less fed intervention. But the states do not necessarily take care of themselves. There are numerous "state programs" that receive a large portion of their budgets from matched or straight hand-out from the fed. State's, for the most part, willingly perpetuate the practice by spending and over spending every federal cent.
See.... if the feds give PA a matched amount of 1.2 million for the "hug a fuggin tree" program, that means the state will spend ALL of that and then some. Even if the state raised enough local money to pay for all of it (w/o any fed funds), they "have" to spend all of the fed money in order to assure they get at least that much from them next year/time.
If a state were to declare complete independence of fed intervention on a monetary "business as usual" basis, the state would have to refuse all fed funds, matched and freely given. Ask that of your current and/or future state elected officials and see what happens. You'll get the look of - Are you fuggin insane?
I know it's a lot more complex than my statements and examples. But in a nutshell, that's how it has been, is, and will be for quite some time to come. Sometimes co-financed progs between federal and state are very good for the residents, at large. Other times it's just another way to siphon off some of the tax payers federal tax money. The state reps justify it by saying, "Hey! I am getting back some of the money the feds took from all of us. I am using it for the good of our state and that benefits us. Or would you rather I leave that money in the feds hands and let them decide how to spend it?"
Sometimes it's a good thing. Sometimes it's "legal" theft.

I think Hawk was being sarcastic and ironic when he said that.T@rgetDrone wrote:

I heard on talk-radio that Halliburton recently HQ'd in Dubai to skip taxes... same with Trans Ocean. Well, kinda...they opened a secondary headquarters in the UAE to handle all their mideast business, but their main HQ is in Houston and they still pay US taxes.songsmith wrote:I heard on talk-radio that Halliburton recently HQ'd in Dubai to skip taxes... same with Trans Ocean.
