Question about painting pickups

Post by Killjingle »

I have long been a user of EMG active pickups. Something that I dont care for is the lack of color choice. Does anyone know if painting the pickup would have adverse effects on the pickup?

My plan would be to use a high quality "suitable for plastic" paint. I did some research on this yesterday and I found a forum where supposedly a tech from EMG stated that it would not cause any issues but I was curious if anyone here could make an argument either way or back it up with factual evidence.

Thanks

I wouldn't think it would...I can't see how paint would affect a pickup's magnetic field...maybe metal flake LOL.
When in doubt...ask Terry at Guitars N Stuff.

I can't see what it would hurt, can't make that much difference. If in doubt try it on a cheap pickup first.

Actually it could make a difference. If you paint them pink they may make your tone sound gay & girly. Seriously though Ron's correct, painting those pickups won't hurt anything tonewise. You may check with Paul at Big Head Guitars as far as any tips for choosing the right type of paint, etc.

I am thinking they painted them all the time. Look at the color scheme of some of the guitars. You can see that they were ...
