Passing of one of Clearfield's legends

Post by funkmeister »

This Monday Bud Moore passed away - 91 years old and a cornerstone in music not only in Clearfield County but throughout the country. He founded the "American Folk Musicians" music union; still active and headquartered in Connecticut. He also fathered 15 children - most of whom continue his musical legacy and contribute to the live music scene in many ways. At the viewing last night, there was a huge turnout of friends and fellow musicians. His influence is felt throughout Clearfield County and beyond and friends as far away as Florida gathered to mourn his departure and celebrate his memories with stories that go back 75 years. While his first love was Country Music, he supported the myriad of bands that sprung from his children, their children and friends. My mother, 93 years young, remembers her brother playing guitar for Bud in the 30's. He is survived by 14 of the 15 children, 44 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. I had the pleasure of hosting a show with Bud a few years ago. He was a professional, a gentleman, and a joy to work with.

And manager of the "Moore Brothers" of course. I first heard of them in the late '60's".

I was competing for gigs with the Moore Bros. as late as 1999. Seriously, they drew big, and would play pretty much anywhere, at a discount rate. I don't know how they did it at all, much less for all those years. They always had folks impressed with their songlist and musicianship, too.
The passing of a legend is right. My condolences to the family, and my envy for a helluva career.--->JMS
