Press Packet???

Post by thelucky13s »

Ok, our band The Lucky 13's are looking for what should be in a Press Packet....or what ever you call it...Basicly, the information you give to a venue or bar owner to show your band.

I was thinking

Cover with info on the CD case?
3-4 songs? (Should they be all originals or...?)

should there be more or keep it simple?

Any thoughts and what not would rock

I been using memory sticks, video, mp3's, pics, bio. If they have a computer of course. Most love the idea.

That's an awesome idea, especially if you use some custom logo printed usb sticks. They will probably continue using the stick and your logo is on it.

I think it should include everything he said, I would keep the bio short and to the point. I hate going to a myspace page or something to check out a band and there is novelette for a bio.

If you are using it to get gigs and you play a mix of covers and originals it would definitely be good to have both on there. Not that its a big concern in the area but I doubt you'd run into any legal trouble using covers on a free promo thing.

just my 2 pesos.

We always sent an 8 track with a mixture of originals and covers...

This replaced the older 78 RPM's we were sending out as most clubs were starting to up date.....

+1

I also hate it when a bio reads like an 8th grade history report, detailing every member who jammed with the band for three weeks before leaving.

A bio should be short, to the point, and emphasize what value the project will give to the club owner, promoter, or event organizer while still remaining exciting and artistic enough to pique the interest of potential fans and music lovers without diving into pretentiousness. It's a delicate balance.

Our demos in our press packages are short snippets of songs, not entire songs. I figure with limited time that everyone has, is a bar owner going to listen to an entire song anyway? We probably have about 50 seconds of each song than fade out and fade right into the next song. That way the bar owner can hear each singer too, since we have four in both groups. Gives them more variety to listen to in a shorter amount of time.
