No Joey, everybody knows that YOU are the Final Decider, the Arbiter of Good and Evil, and the rest of us are fortunate that we have you to tell us what to think, where to go, and how to think. I'm so fucking glad to live in a country where we have the liberty to do anything we want as long as we get your approval.undercoverjoe wrote:Do you have the list of who is going to heaven and who to hell? Are you going to tell Glenn or are you going to make him find out the hard way?
I didn't make the Christian rules, Zippy, Jesus did... but you certainly trump Jesus because He was a liberal. Here's a challenge: read your Holier-Than-Thou Bible, and tell me who Jesus would deny healthcare to? Who would Jesus waterboard? How did Jesus Christ feel about class warfare and social Darwinism? You're screwed. By allowing the inmates to take over the right-wing asylum, you've twisted and co-opted Christianity into the hate-mongering, greed-dripping insanity that now cripples government. You're screaming at the Coast Guard from the deck of a quickly-sinking ship.
I can help.

O, johnny boy, YOU were the one calling shots on who is not going to heaven. Another case of you doing something stupid (claiming GB is not going to heaven) but then accusing me or someone else of doing the same. BTW, I have not been to a Christian service (other than 2 funerals) in more than 30 years. So your bible bashing post in my direction has fallen on some very dry soil.songsmith wrote:No Joey, everybody knows that YOU are the Final Decider, the Arbiter of Good and Evil, and the rest of us are fortunate that we have you to tell us what to think, where to go, and how to think. Nice try, combining my so called Christian hate-mongering and greed dripping insanity to cause government to be crippled: WoW, where are you getting your beans, or is it just your usual koolaid?

A liberal? What is a liberal? Would you agree that a liberal is somebody who advocates that the government should collect taxes and spend money on social programs, especially the poor?songsmith wrote:I didn't make the Christian rules, Zippy, Jesus did... but you certainly trump Jesus because He was a liberal. I have yet to see a liberal support private charitable acts and contributions in favor of government programs for the poor. That is more in line with the conservative viewpoint.
I also have yet to see any Bible passage where Jesus advocated that Caesar, Pilate or Herod should spend more money on social programs for the poor. Instead, all the stories tell us of Jesus personally helping the poor and the masses without any mention of government aid.
What about abortion? Where do ya think Jesus stands on abortion?
And what about taxes? Would you agree that liberals are known for wanting higher taxes to pay for all the aid to the poor, etc.?
It is well known that Jesus opposed taxes and that was one of the charges against him that resulted in his crucifiction:
"Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ/Messiah, a king.” (Luke 23:1-4)
A liberal? I think not...Jesus is probably the most well-known anti-government compassionate conservative in history.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
I agree with everything you said, lonewolf, except one thing. When asked about taxes (which were unfairly high for the Jewish people), Jesus picked up a coin and asked whose face was on it. They said, "Ceasar." Jesus told them to render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's. This was to say that the Jews were to pay taxes, even if they were unfairly high.

Someone who advocates personal freedom and believes that institutions are detrimental to the purity of individuals. Oh wait, that's a libertarian! We had to invent a new word in mainstream media and political discourse because we don't even actually understand the true classical definitions of liberal, conservative, and socialist.lonewolf wrote:

I kinda expected that.hicksjd9 wrote:I agree with everything you said, lonewolf, except one thing. There are some who believe that "This was to say that the Jews were to pay taxes, even if they were unfairly high." Then there are those who do not. I happen to be in the 2nd category because if you parse it with the prior and following verses:
"But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me?"
and
"When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away"
This tells me they were frustrated by his ambiguous non-answer that was cleverly designed to keep from being entrapped without actually lying.

I know the classic definition of liberal (hence, I put: "would you agree...") ...I also know that you are the only other person on this board that bothers with it. The old or classic definition of liberal is long gone and probably was dead before you were born.bassist_25 wrote:Someone who advocates personal freedom and believes that institutions are detrimental to the purity of individuals. Rather than bringing up the dead term every time somebody uses the contemporary meaning, may I suggest that you drive to to top of Cresson summit, get out of your car, face west and start pissing.
It is a similar action, but far more enjoyable!

Actually, I wasn't arguing against your definition; I was just getting on my usual soapbox and making a general pronouncement. I know I'm beating a dead horse and arguing over semantics, but it would be like if people started calling Windows a command line interface operating system, and all of a sudden, people didn't understand the real difference between a CLI and a GUI OS. But people thought that Windows was a CLI anyways because that's what everyone who doesn't know the actual difference between the two types of OSes calls it.lonewolf wrote: I know the classic definition of liberal (hence, I put: "would you agree...") ...I also know that you are the only other person on this board that bothers with it. I never said I had the key to Heaven. I said, and will reiterate, that Jesus did. I then asked a question of that still hasn't been answered, As the full-owners of morality and ethics, right-wingers, we are discussing Glenn Beck's insanity re communism and Christianity, and again I ask: Who would Jesus deny?
If I'm supposed to dedicate myself to following the core conservative values, which do not appear to tolerate anything but Christianity; if another core value is not rewarding those who do not work; then Christ would have to turn a deafened ear to the sick or old or disabled. So which group would He deny?
The right has used Fundamentalist Christianity since the Reagan era. They've tied God and politics, each incendiary topics, and prey upon the same people who send televangelists money. The end result is Beck telling you that if your church doesn't agree with him, QUIT your church. Can anyone really justify that? And if he disagrees, on the talkshow he gets millions to make, with one of the basic ideals of CHRIST HIMSELF, he cannot be a Christian. As a non-believer, even I know that non-Christians can't get into Heaven.
When I see Glenn Beck in his Just Rewards, I'll be the guy handing him a shovel.--->JMS

hi
we are all the key holders to our own destinys and i vote for rum and keep it flowing! also on the christianity i was baptized catholic but i reside in the universal church of christ, where ever i am he is!
hi everyone
Politics and religion in the same thread. This has the works for a possible explosion and ill be here to watch. Also why is Jesus and what he would of done, being brought into a discussion on the constitution? Didn't the constitution have something about that in there? you know with religion, and something about a wall separating it from government. It must be somewhere in the middle or towards the end for i missed it?!?!

The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

Jesus is a liberal? That was already debunked.songsmith wrote:I didn't make the Christian rules, Zippy, Jesus did... but you certainly trump Jesus because He was a liberal. On the healthcare question, it depends on what you mean by healthcare.
If you mean healthcare delivery, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe that Jesus would have personally turned anybody away. You might say he was the coolest doctor in history. I didn't read anything about him being on Pilate's government healthcare staff, so we don't really know anything about his management style with government healthcare delivery.
If you mean healthcare insurance, it may have been difficult for him to do anything, since the concept wasn't around until the 17th century A.D.
Suppose there was such a thing as health insurance in ancient times and that it is a "God given right" as many progressives claim. What would Jesus do? Since it is a "God given right" wouldn't it be logical to assume that Jesus would have prayed to God for health insurance policies to fall like Manna from Heaven?
Perhaps at large gatherings, He would take a single health insurance policy and miraculously tear from it enough policies to insure the whole multitude?
Warning: This post contains sarcasm to illustrate the absurdity of the question.
Please read carefully.

Back on topic. I just received a Coffee Party email encouraging me to attend a Coffee Party event this weekend. Sadly, there are none in my area, but at the top of the suggestion list, they recommended the Coffee Party Summit in Rome, Italy:

Yea, profits and industry is what this country was built with. Take away industry...which they have, and profits...which they are doing....and what do you have left? I just think it's funny that there's a big thing going on against capitalism....it's like being raised by a loving mother, then shooting her in the head when you are grown.PStl wrote:songsmith wrote:PStl wrote: Taking the responsibility to provide services to the public from the private sector, to the government is called . . .
