Coffee Party Movement

Post by songsmith »

It's been getting a lot of press this week... an answer to the Talkshow Fan Club (aka Tea Party), and an alternative to the nonstop crybabies. Will I join? Maybe, if they're about facing extremism head-on, and not wimping out to the laughable demands of the squeaky wheels. It doesn't look like that's the case, though... the wingleberries are already attempting to infiltrate, and they want them to be "nice." Riiiiiight.
I think it's time to infiltrate talk radio instead. It's time to beat the empty cans at their own game.
Call in to local talkmonkeys, and ask,
"Where do you get your authority?"
"We each have the exact same power; one opinion, one vote; why is yours so much more valuable than mine?"
"Where was the Tea Party when we spent a trillion on the Iraq War, wasn't the debt a problem then?"
"There's already a Constitution Party, why not just join that?"
"Didn't Reagan bail out Chrysler, double the national debt, and pass COBRA healthcare legislation via reconciliation?" (the R and A in COBRA stand for 'reconciliation act')
"If the Tea Party is nonpartisan, which liberal or independent candidates do you support?"

I call in to my fave libertardlian and ask him stuff like that as often as possible, it's hilarious! My goal is to frustrate him with questions he can't counter without turning on the other wing-nuts, or tripping on his own words. Kind of like here, but live on his own show. The phones then light up, and the talking-points start flowing like Fox-flavored "iced tea." It makes me grin the rest of the day, knowing I threw stones at the hornets' nest, just for the sake of throwing stones. :D
Try it, it's fun, and helps slow the pace of the runaway extremist train.--->JMS

im starting the beer party movement. we want to get serious answers to such important questions as:

who drank the last beer?
How can i pay for that tab?
Where is my car?
Where the hell was i last night, where am i now, and who the hell are you?

Serious issues is what im talking about!
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

I'll join the beer party. That sounds like it will be more fun. Will there be jamming there? I can't play that well, but I can try to fake it :)

If the coffee party actually had positions on issues, it might warrant a more serious response; however, a group that only touts "cooperation in government" is nothing more than a larger and better organized flock of sheep.

I think it's position is pretty plain: There has to be an alternative to the endless harranguing and the nonstop din of talking points being repeated over and over. The Tea Party is a creation of the rightwing media. They hammer The Message all day on the radio, and all evening on TV. The easily-influenced start repeating The Message, then believing The Message. They insist that everyone abide by The Message, or the country will fall. "You're not listening to The Message!," they shout. "You will listen or else!"

I think the purpose of the Coffee Party is to stop complaining that government is the cause of all your problems, and look who else has you by the curlies. Government is not going away just because your particular brand of whackitude isn't in fashion right now. Everybody can bitch all they want, and pretend the world's coming to an end, but as long as I have a vote, I have a say. If not enough people agree with you on your issues, maybe you're just wrong.--->JMS

It has been said that one of the definitions of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I can think of two good examples:

1. Replying to a Johnny post.
2. Tasking the federal government to solve problems.

It's funny because it's the government that has created the mess we are in, and what do we ask? The government to help....makes sense to me...

I still read these threads. A friend sent this to me. Have some fun with it.

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her
altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him,

"Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour
ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air
balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above
sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100
degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

"She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be an Obama Democrat."

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically
correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm
still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Republican."

"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you are
going. You've risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air.
You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to
solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before
we met, but somehow, now it's my fault."

BTW this is only inserted as levity. It does not break me personal hiatus - although some might argue that point. Take care my political friends!

I have to disagree...you fell off the wagon, Bill. You also compounded it by keeping this thread going and posting a second time {in my best Monty Python french accent}. :D

1. It was not a quote, it was a political joke. A quote has quotation marks and a reference to the author.
2. The post contained a biased joke that did not suitably comply with the Fairness Doctrine. There should have been at least two other jokes: one biased toward the other party and another biased for those who believe that BOTH PARTIES ARE A JOKE.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act actually used reconciliation as intended, since it was enacted as a modification of the budget. It also contained the Byrd Rule which was intended to hinder efforts to legislate thru reconciliation, such as is presently being tried in Congress. As far as insurance rules are concerned, COBRA is a misnomer, since what we call COBRA was a very small part of a much larger budget bill. This reconciliation process was created by the CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET AND IMPOUNDMENT CONTROL ACT OF 1974. This act also opened up the floodgates for budget deficits by removing discretionary budget power from the executive branch and granting more budgetary powers to the legislative branch. It is important to note that this act would probably never have become law without the Watergate crisis which weakened its opposition to the point of overriding a veto. It seems as though all extremely bad legislation results from crises.

If you would like to be better informed on the subject, here are two excellent references:

http://www.law.harvard.edu/faculty/hjac ... ted_34.pdf

http://www.rules.house.gov/archives/jcoc2y.htm

COBRA was solely sponsored by Representative Dan Rostenkowski (D-IL) and was simply a re-worked budget with changes requested by a 58% democrat controlled House of Representatives. It was basically a budget compromise with the proposals already made by the 53% republican controlled Senate. When presented to Reagan for signature, it was simply a negotiated budget bill that was approved by both parties. To say that it was Reagan's work is completely false. To say that there is any similarity between the 1985-86 cobra process and the desperate and shameful tactics of today's President and Congress is utter nonsense.
