Modulus Quantum 5 bass w/ Lane Poor p/ups & truss rod!

Post by MOONDOGGY »

No paycheck = bye bye basses. Hopefully I won't be completely selling out. For now, I'm selling the ones with the least sentimental value.

This is a rare Modulus. I say this because from what I understand, early '99 was when Modulus first started offering truss rods. And late '98 was the last that you could get a Modulus with Lane Poor p/ups. So here you have it! A Modulus with these options was only available for about a 1 year period of time.

Specs:

- Ser # 99007 = 7th bass made in 1999?
- 2-pc Alder body w/ Quilted Maple top and trans red finish
- 35" scale graphite neck WITH TRUSS ROD!
- Lane Poor soapbar p/ups. I believe they're M4.0Ws, but I can pull them to make sure if you wish. They're stock, so they have the Modulus logos of course.
- Bartolini 2-band pre (NTB I believe? Again, I can find out for sure if it's important.)
- Original (I think) Modulus leather (or pleather) gigbag. Has rip on bottom.

This is a players' bass. The top is in excellent condition. The back has a chip that is through the finish. There are clear coat scratches on the neck heel. And it has the not uncommon clear coat chipping off along both edges of the fingerboard. These flaws are shown in the pics in the link.

The tone is loud, punchy, and crystal clear. This can get VERY bright and crisp if you want it to. And unlike some electronics (like active EMGs), this can also achieve warm and mellow. And of course, since it's graphite, there are no dead spots. The tone and volume is amazingly consistent across all registers.

Price: $1600 $1500

Did you look into how much it would cost to get the neck properly refinished?

Also when are you going to be in town again? I'd love to check this one out.

I've been strongly debating carefully chipping away all the clear coat along the entire edge of the fretboard on both sides and then lightly sanding the leftover edge. I've also considered completely stripping and refinishing the neck. If I have this bass when the weather warms up, I'll definitely be doing something about the neck finish.

EDIT: SOLD!
