Culinary schools

Post by witchhunt »

Did you ever see these commercials about culinary schools? I gotta laugh at the size of the portions they're dishing out. I feed my dog more than that. Then they dab some tiny amount of sauce on the side in a fancy design. Mmmm, that'll help.

When you see plates like that it is always part of a dinner consisting of courses. Like a wine or beer dinner would maybe have 5-9 plates of food each paired with a wine or beer. So you would have appetizer, salad or soup, a palate clenser such as a sorbet, first entree then dessert. In the end a buttload of food.

I'm a huge fan of Iron Chef America (and food network in general) so I'm familiar with those kind of portions. I think if I ever decide to go back to school this is what I'd take because I absolutely love to cook.

actually, the portions you see are what portions should look like. Most restaurant portions are 2-3 times what they should be. a piece of beef should only be the size of your palm. they wonder why people are so overweight. people don't eat until they aren't hungry anymore, they eat til they can't frickin' move (I'm guilty).
