What makes new musicians quit......
If you have been a musician for a while, you know that there is always personal drama that occurs within a band. If you think about it-that is the case everywhere-at work, in clubs, in organizations, etc. It's just human nature. How one handles that drama is the key.
When you spend a lot of time with someone (as in a band) you naturally become close. You begin to know one another's strengths as well as weaknesses. You also know what buttons to push (as in any long-term relationship) to hurt that person. This is very destructive behavior in any arena. But broadcasting on a public forum-in my opinion-is just plain mean. Let's face it-two people can view the same event and have two very different experiences. There are two sides to every story-then there is the truth.
I think it is very inappropriate to drag someone's name through the mud in a public forum. This is a musician's forum-not the National Enquirer. It can be damaging to people's psyche's (as well as just plain piss them off!)
I have seen a lot of positive support for other musicians here on RP-especially for the younger, "up and coming" musicians, and I think that's great. That is the way it should be! I have also seen (and have been the focus of) negative, personal bashing in this forum. Musicians I play with (and have played with in the past) have also been dragged through the mud. What is the point of this? And-what kind of example are we setting for the younger musicians? They are going to think we are all crazy! They need role models they can look up to so they will continue on their own musical journey.
On a personal note-the musicians I play with now (and in the past) are great people. We all have our quirks, but we work together to overcome them. I am very grateful for that.

I have to agree. I don’t think people realize (or forget to realize) there are people that troll and read this stuff. The he said/she said crap doesn’t edify anyone. Some things are just better left unsaid.
I’m a young musician –I think bands need to get back to what it’s about – the music. Just play. The only reason I keep playing is because there’s something deep inside that won’t allow me to quit.
The positive reinforcement I’ve gotten from so many members here on rockpage is awesome. I’ve gotten more advice and help in the last year than I can even comprehend. There is a lot of people on here I look up to and respect. Just remember that when you post (not directed at any certain people).
And one last thing … thanks to the person who told me I couldn’t. You’ve been my motivation.

What makes young musicians quit
While I am not a "young" vocalist, I am pretty new at the local scene. I have a young bassist who has been only playing for just over a year now. When No Guarantee was together, he was taught to play songs .... well wrong.
Now that the band has disbanded and he joined us in Vapor Lock, he is learning to play the songs the correct way. Why is that? Because our guitar player and a friend of the band has been working with him and teaching the songs properly.
Yes, there are times where he gets frustrated ... we all do, but he continues to work hard at getting the songs down pat.
I also would like a little help and guidance and at times have gotten in from members of the RP. To some, I am all kinds of things from an assh*ole to a douchebag, that's fine, everyone has an opinion. I am sure there is someone within the halls of the RP that would be willing to help me and Vapor Lock out.

Having talent is one thing....what you do with it is something else

I think most musicians are people
, and some people tend towards the drama, and some don't. When I see that kind of thing on Rockpage, I usually take it with a grain of salt because I've seen people form bands, break up, form another band with one different guy, get the first guy back, etc. There's always that interplay between personal relationships with one another, and whatever it takes to keep playing music. Some of my favorite people on here have had loud public breakups and gone on to play great together again.
I generally don't hold any of that stuff against anyone, mostly because I don't, ummm... care.--->JMS

I've found more drama with players that are less talented. It just seems like the least talented person in the band seems to always be the one causing drama. Also, not to knock anyone, but females tend to bring a bit more drama to the band, that's just their nature....Sometimes it's a girlfriend or wife that causes unwanted drama, and they aren't even in the band! That's my opinion, that and sometimes people need to grow up.
