Wheres all the singers?????

OK. here's my question. Using the internet you would think one would be able to find at least a handfull of people willing to try and sing for a band. Specially on a great forum such as this. My question is this.. WHERE'S ALL THE SINGERS? I know singers are hard to find, but come on! Where are all the singers!

Frank Dixon (former Korruption/Fear Love & Hate frontman) now lives in Virginia Beach. He might be back in town over the holidays.

I would imagine that because a decent singer is hard to find, they are probably already involved in a band.

Of course, tha doesn't explain why all the crappy singers who THINK they are decent singers haven't contacted ya!

No matter wich piece of the puzzle your trying to find it can be a task.

It was mentioned on here awhile back that bands seem to be sticking it out a little longer these days and that would lead to the absence of experienced musicians also.

I've always heard the maxim that "guitarists are a dime-a-dozen", which I find to be a load of shit. Sure, there are a ton of hack guitarists, but finding a truly skilled player is just as difficult as finding any other musician.

True, but it's easier to be a successful band with a hack guitarist than it is with a hack singer. Everyone in the audience can tell if the singer is laying an egg; not so many lend a critical ear to the guitar.

I guess the presence of this thread explains why I was so aggressively pursued in recent months by bands looking for singers.

More specifically, I'd get people asking me to try out for bands that played types of music that I clearly mentioned in my ad that I just could not do. But that didn't stop them. I'd explain why I couldn't do a particular style of music or song, in great detail at times, and they'd just be like "c'mon.. just come down... c'mon, give it a try!"

Sorry, but I've humiliated myself in front of enough people enough times to (finally) know what my limits are, and I'm not going through it again just because your band is desperate for a singer. Do I have to say "No means NO!"?

(BTW, I'm involved in a project now, I'm happy to say!)

The funny thing about finding a vocalist is that there are many skilled singers, but it's hard to find one with an interesting timbre. I've heard a ton of singers with killer ranges, awesome falsetto, ect. but their voice either 1. had an uninteresting timbre or 2. they couldn't put any "soul" into their performance.

Question for bands/musicians looking for singers: Do you feel that the evilness known as karaoke has increased the amount of wanna-be singers answering your ads?

Very True like I've said I saw a couple of the "Agency" bands that just kinda bypass the lead section or play the rythm without a lead and noone seems to notice but if the singer couldn't stay in key people would notice right away

Thats definatly a plus when a singer know their limits and what he / she does good. I've seens a few singers who have a good voice but try to override their range and that takes them in the audiences eyes from being good to bad even though they sing most of their set good

I played that game for SO LONG, singing things that were painfully outside my range, and finally I just started saying no. At first the other bandmembers (not my current band, y'all) thought it was an ego thing (hey, maybe it was, I wanted to sound good) but they eventually got used to it. I sort of pointed out that I don't sing like Sebastian Bach or Brian Johnson for the same reason they didn't play like Satriani or Malmsteen. i'm so much happier now, and can actually finish a show without much pain.----->JMS
