I always found the Phaser to sound better in front of the amp.

I can't say 100% but the Phaser should go before the distortion pedal I would think. When I used one I ran it through a hi gain amp so it was before the distortion that way. As far as the other pedals up front I'd probably run them tuner, noise gate, compression, phaser then distortion. Alot of guys run the gate through the loop but I never cared for it that way. It comes down to trial and error and what sounds best to you. Placing pedals in a different order sometimes can make things sound great and other times make it sound like crap.

With a gain pedal, I'd put the Phaser after. You want to "phase' the driven guitar, not distort the phased sound (I mean you MAY want to. Depends on what you're going for. A Thurston Moore/Lee Renaldo type of thing, for example, perhaps).

I, too, have used it in front of the drive side of an amp and it worked well enough also, though. But, with pedals, seems to react differently.

I don't like FXLoops, so Iput everything in front, but that's just a personal taste thing.

REALLY, might just want to run it through all the options and see what you
think.

Thanks guy's i will try it before and after see what sounds best .I did try the noise gate in the loop but unless i was using the loop it did nothing so i moved it up front after the distortion so i could get that quick cut out but my new MXR fullbore metal has a very quick gate built in to it .

As far as what sound i was going for i really don't no i just sit in my living room its just another toy to play with to see what sounds i can come up with

I always run phasers and flangers after gain pedals. I like the sound of the gain getting the modulation. Just try a bunch of different ways and go with whatever sounds good to you. 8)

I'm curious. Do you also run amp distortion?

If not, I would put all your pedals in front of the amp and avoid using the fx loop. One advantage of an fx loop is to have time effects AFTER amp distortion.

Generally I like:
1 Envelop fx(wha/phase)
2 Gain (OD/fuzz/dist)
3 Modulation fx (trem/chorus)
4 Time fx (delays/verbs)

Ok i have done allot moving thing around and tried just about every option.
Yes I do run the different channels on the amp and use the effects loop so this is what i got now

Effects loop 1.Chorus 2. Delay
Front -1.Tuner 2.Phaser 3.Compressor 4.Distortion 5. Gate

but the only thing i use up front on the distortion channels is the gate the rest is just for messing around on the clean

I did try the phaser in the loop origanally but it sounded like ass maybe i had it in the wrong spot but i like this every thing sounds good no mud

Yea, a Phase Shifter in the loop sounds like crap to me too. They are like a wah pedal, they seem to sound better in front of the amp and/or distortion. EVH used his PS in front of the amp for a treble boost for his leads and it ended up becoming a signature sound. :D :D

You did good there, Tom. Terry always told me time based FX go in the loop like delay & chorus. The rest can go out.
But like the other fellas said...play, listen, decide.

I have found that certain amps sound better with effects in the loop and other amps sound better with everything out front. That is something to keep in mind as well.
