Murtha Speaks !

Post by Imgrimm01 »

I just saw Congressman Murtha on the 11:00 news speaking in support of the draft coming back in this country.. This guy is an idiot ! He spoke of needing a larger military and how the current " volunteer " system is un fair because it leaves the countrys defense in the hands of only a few rather that having everyone have to do their part , Gee I wonder if that means he will be going to Iraq to help out? Somehow I bet NOT !

I guess he found a loophole to get his kids, grandkids etc out of it already.

Somehow, I knew the word "unfair" would be in there somewhere. Don't fret. The Republican government has no intentions of bringing back the draft, despite Murtha's rantings. The Democrats may try, and might even make a big noise, but it won't get past committee.

The administration is stepping up volunteer recruiting. If you watch TV, you will notice more "army of one" commercials than usual.

I agree

Post by Imgrimm01 »

Lonewolf I agree ( can you believe we agree on something ) there prob. will not be a draft ( lets hope ) but my point is who is Murtha to come on TV and talk about fair for everyone to do their part when we all know he means everyone as long as it doesn't effect him ! And if that wasn't enough he was smug about it, This is the first time I've seen him speak and I must tell you I DON"T like him ! Dangerous Man !

I really don't see any point in having forced conscription unless we were fighting massive infantry battles (which would be very doubtful in this day and age). The military seems to do better with a streamlined amount of highly skilled people.

(Man, I talk about the military like I have a clue. :D )

Murtha is living proof that horses asses out number horses.

Look here it is in a nutshell

The President doesn't want the draft.

Despite what you may have heard from some right-wing Nut Jobs out there, The Congress, both houses, BOTH parties don't want the draft.

The Joint Chiefs don't want the draft.

THERE WILL BE NO DRAFT.

It's cheaper to offer bonuses than to prosecute draft dodgers,

a draft in this day and age will bring expesnive and time consuming lawsuits

and draftees aren't as good as soldiers.

THERE WILL BE NO FUCKING DRAFT anybody who says different doesn't know his ass from his hat

Now if you are in the reserves or the IRR, I'd have a bag packed and ready but that's not the same thing at all.

You volunteered for the Guard or the Reserves at some point and your name is already on a list some place.

but If you've never, ever been in the military in any way shape of form, Guard, Reserves, ROTC, etc,

YOU ABSOLUTLEY POSITIVLEY WILL NOT BE DRAFTED...PERIOD.

THERE IS NO DRAFT

any questions? no? good. . .as you were.

Right on, Vin... and if it's an Arabian horse, Murtha's got his hand out in case it's handing out bribes. Does anyone Remember ABSCAM? If not, look it up.
... and then the wheel fell off.

I could care less where he stands for the draft. The fact of the matter with John Murtha is he brings a hell of a lot of jobs to the 12th congressional district. And that is pretty much all that matters anymore. You know damn well that the draft isn't going to be implemented, so why argue about it. At least he provides for his district.

Bob, in many ways John Murtha's a real good guy but this draft thing is one example of him being WAY off base. If I heard correctly, there were only 2 votes out of something like 240 some votes in the House voting for the draft and John was one of those votes. Another example of Mr. Murtha being off base is on medical Pot. I got into a big E-mail pissing match with him last year over that issue. John's a good guy buy I thing history will prove him wrong on these 2 issues.

I don't know alot about the guy BUT as I said I saw him on the news last week talking about the draft and after that interview I knew he was a Crack Pot, and yes you're right he was 1 of 2 out of 200+ and his statement about fairness was insane !! Theses are the kind of people in government that worry me ... Who puts these people in power and why ?

THE 2 THAT VOTED FOR THE DRAFT WERE DEMOCRATS.
IT WAS A TOOL USED BEFORE THE ELECTION TO START THE CONTROVERSY OF BRINGING BACK THE DRAFT.

GEORGE BUSH TOOK IT TO A VOTE BEFORE THE ELECTION TO GET IT OFF THE TABLE, AND TO SHOW WHO REALLY WANTED IT.

TO YOUR QUESTION ABOUT WHO PUT THESE GUYS IN OFFICE,
......DEMOCRATS.

As I have said

Post by Imgrimm01 »

As I have said on many posts before I'm an issue voter not a party voter, so if Murtha is in office because a bunch of dems put him there for party sake then that's wrong, I however wouldn't vote for him if he were the last man on the planet. Seems like a complete ass to me !

Although I didn't see the Congressman's speech, I do have to say that Murtha is a good and rational man who has brought a lot of jobs to our area. I have met him on many occassions. He is intelligent, well-spoken, and sincerely concerned for the well-being of our community. As a citizen of the 12th District, I have voted for him and will continue to do so. Murtha's observation that a draft may be required is not necessarrily a recommendation or something he enjoys saying, just as nobody likes delivering bad news.

Right wrong or indifferent, we're involved in this pointeless, stupid war, and we have to see it through. Again, I didn't see his speech, but as a loyal constituent, I'm giving Murtha the benefit of the doubt. Don't shoot the messenger just because he says something you don't want to hear.

Peace, and God bless through the next four years of military over-extension,

I have to admit, the man can bring home the pork. Ordinarily, i'm against that kind of thing, but this area suffered in the 70's because we didn't have representation with a lot of connections and committee seats in Congress. Bud Shuster, who never struck me as the most honest, upstanding member of Congress, at least kept New Enterprise S&L guys in jobs for many years, on huge unnecessary road construction. I, however, don't complain when I drive on those sweet roads.
I figure Murtha knew he'd never get a draft bill passed, he just wanted to touch base with the anti-war folks by alluding to how "bad" things are, that we need a draft. It seems odd and ironic.------>JMS

Actually

Post by Imgrimm01 »

Actually he didn't say that " he thought a draft may be necessary" ... He said " I think that the draft is the best idea for this country it keeps the fighting fair and forces everyone to have to do their part" He wasn't delivering a message at all this was his message !

BTW, Bob....FYI...Murtha was also a very vocal opponent of the war in the first place who publicly stated at several speeches that he felt that the President had jumped to judgment and action. He was saying this before we even invaded Afghanistan...the guy is not pro-war.

If our forces run low, due to military over-extension (which Murtha opposed), how else do you staff your military? If you don't have enough volunteers, you draft. From what I understand, college exemptions no longer apply either, which makes it even more fair. Back in the 1960's, if you were college material, you didn't have to go die. That truly wasn't fair to the kids who didn't make the college cut.

Those of us born after 1950 or so were the first generation in the past 150 years to NOT experience some kind of compulsory military action.

Having a draft is more common than not.

I hope it doesn't come to it, but I think it's unfair to judge a good and honest man (Murtha is one of the only politicians I trust) because he said that a draft was a fair method of staffing a military.

And yes, I am a big Murtha fan.
