Bob Dylan

In my own (damn hippie) opinion it's Bob Dylan.

Most won't agree but to me his lyrics are timeless.
Keep on keepin' on,

Have to agree with Dan. I would have to add McCartney though.

with out question...i am
The script was written, and the villian was cast. The provocation needed, they will provide. They did it before, they'll do it again.

Three of my favorites are; Townes VanZandt, Guy Clark, John Prine. Would hate to have to choose only one, but if I had to, it would be John Prine.

Oh, how about Neil Young or David Crosby, never mind, I can't pick just one.

I'd like to hear Buble do a version of it.

John Lennon but hey, that's a tough question, a good song is a good song.

(Now I'm starting to think about Dylan).

Hey, just took brother "DogAlpha's" tip and clicked on the "Songwriter's Hall of Fame" link and discovered that the "John Lennon" of the mid 1800's was Stephen Foster from Pittsburgh, Pa. Bigest songwriter of that time writing about social issues and injustices and died around that same age in New York City. WOW!

Pete Townshend. and I know that I am going to take some flack for this one........but I have to mention Dan Fogelberg. The guy told some great stories in his songs.
Videos destroyed the vitality of rock and roll. Before that, music said, "Listen to me." Now it says, "Look at me."

She doesn't sing, but Diane Warren is an excellent songwriter.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

Not sure everything from the 60s thru the 80s is a little Foggish

But if your right i stand corrected.

Speaking of being corrected ... where has that capt. Grammer been?

The reason I asked is because the main character (Malcolm McDowell) was an extreme Beethoven fan in the movie. Been a while since I saw that movie, too.

What? the 1760's thru 1780's? You are talking about Mozart and Beethoven, haha.
... and then the wheel fell off.

That was mostly "Ludwig Van", Rossini and a little bit of "Lighthouse Keeper."

It was adapted and arranged by Wendy Carlos of "Switched On Bach" fame.

Billy Joel and Tori Amos are two of my favorites

along with Bernie Taupin (not sure how to spell his last name, Elton John's writing partner) and I agree with the Lennon/McCartney fans too.

Prince is a great songwriter.

Jim Morrison for his poetry.

Most recently I bought Glen Hansard and Marketa Inglova's second CD (they were the songwriting team that did the music for the movie Once) I don't know about greatest songwriters of all time but I really enjoy the Once soundtrack.
