Across the Universe

I know I will probably be ripped to shreds for asking, but has anyone seen Across the Universe? When it first came out a lot of people were saying it was a "chick flick". I watched it and I actually enjoyed it. The songs, IMO, were very well done. Anyone else see it? What did you think?

LOVED it. Also one of the most colorful and visually stimulating movies I have ever seen. I thought I hated musicals!
The whole story line has been done MANY times in books, movies, as well as some of those incidents actually happening but I still liked it.

I love how all the characters' names are characters in Beatles songs. I love the Vietnam and 60's backdrop and how the director weaves the tunes in and out of the setting in a completely sensible way. I am reminded how influential the Beatles have been in helping me to be who I am today, vocally and as a person. I love the line early on when Max's father says, "What you do defines who you are" and Max retorts, "Who you are defines what you do." Beautiful!!! I think that is my new creed....."Because" is simply a work of art, and all the songs that Sadie sings rock hard.

Isn't it amazing that "Rubber Soul" to "Abbey Road"spans approx. 5 years?
How did they write the soundtrack of so many people's lives in such a short span of time? Perhaps touring hampers the creative process

I love the movie!!

Well the character Bono plays is called Dr. something or other but if you have ever read the Electric Kool-Aid Test by Tom Wolfe about Kesey and the Merry Pranksters you will know that this character is based on Kesey and his cross-country trip on that famous psychedelic bus. That part of the movie was really cool...that part of the 60's was really cool....

My son says Bono is Mr. Kite??? Any way, it is 1 of our favorite flicks.

Edit: While mold was being eradicated from our basement late this afternoon and evening (What FUN!

), my son watched ATU again and informed me ZappasX (and Ozwalt816) is correct, Bono was indeed Dr. Robert. He said Mr. Kite is some other actor.

i thought it was awesome and i had to run out and buy it after seeing it. it is one movie i never get tired of watching. i am huge beatles fan and i loved how the movie portrayed the music and the time line of that era! if you haven't seen it, i suggest you do!

I had reluctantly gone to it in theaters and actually enjoyed it very much. The songs and story were tasteful and helped move the movie along so well. I thought it was very well done.
