Anybody noticed?

Post by shredder138 »

That every thread that exceeds three pages is the same old political bullshit. Dont get me wrong, I do find it entertaining at times, but really, is that where all the passion lies on this board? Hell, I would welcome a six page whine fest about the Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists mixed in with a little grimes songwriting critique board right about now. I'm starting to wonder how many of the crybabies are even musicians. .Anyway, cheers.

One might be surprised how well some of us get along. I have the GREATEST respect and know personally, lonewolf, undercoverjoe, RobTheDrummer, songsmith, whitedevilone and more. These are all outstanding people who care about the future of the USA. I have NO doubt about that. We just happen to disagree on how to make the future the best it can be. Debate is good. It makes people think. I learn from each of the individuals I mentioned. I'm proud that we live where free speech is common place and we do not fear retribution for expressing our opinions !

No matter our political persuasion, we LOVE America !

Music / Lyrics, musicians and politics have been holding hands for centuries.

It's a general observation. Look at the threads that exceed three pages. And they all have a shitload of YOU. I sure wouldn't mind somethin a little different. :D

As my friend, Mr. Jason Straw, said to me the other week whilst hanging out at Guitars 'n Stuff: "I started viewing Rockpage as a comedy and it's a lot better that way." I've taken that advice. :D

Well, I love real discussion and DO love politics. Problem is, everyone who
fancies their little self historian, theologian, etc. based on..well...nothing
that lines up with fact...tends to drowned out and annoy reason (Some...you just have to give up on and figure things need done IN SPITE of that kind of
thinking; IE: Lowest common denominator thought process).

Got into RP because of the people based music, gear, etc. Guess it's best
just to go back to limiting the viewing to places where those posting have
a real background knowledge.

But, ya, I'd like to see a discussion arguing the abilities/contributions of
Brian Jones vs. Mick Taylor vs. Ron Wood (Keef, not in the discussion.
After 40 years...you HAVE to get a pass of some kind).

Good advice, that's pretty much what I do.

I just don't go to those threads, but it does piss me off when a perfectly good music thread gets hijacked into some political BS.

Word!

You really do have to take the political stuff with a grain of salt. I count my Rockpage political rivals as real, actual friends... The last time I hung out with undercoverjoe, he bought me a beer, and we talked music, because we both love that more than politics. We have, and will continue, to hang out togther in the "real world." RobThe Drummer, is a salt-of-the-earth kind of guy whose talent and potential are tremendous, and Lonewolf and Bassist25 are among the smartest people I've ever known. I don't know a lot of my other foils as well, but I'm sure they're okay, too. It's just partisan politics, something some of us care about. Hand me a microphone, and you don't get an impassioned plea for progressiveness and fairness.
You get a song.
Besides, much of the musical discussion here has devolved into Metallica Sucks/Metallica Rules-type crap, or some noob in his first garage-band thinks he's on a bullet-ride to Number One. Way boring for anyone who's been in the trenches awhile.--->JMS

Actually, this kind of stuff is very entertaining to me. I know enough "noobs" who fit right in this category.

lol I don't really know if I'm your foil, Johnny. I consider myself just a little bit left of center. I just get a kick out of the political exchanges on here, usually because I can predict what everyone is going to say so well that I might as start writing quatrains and having dudes with long grey beards on the Discovery Channel trying to interpret what it all means.

Nah, I gave that shit up.

I was going through the rockpage archives and took notice that its been a long time since there was any discussions/debates that lasted more than three pages about music or other than politics. I'm not crying about political threads, I just think they're getting a little stale. But after all, it's only my opinion.

I don't mind the political threads, but like ToonaRockGuy, I don't like it when a music thread gets hijacked. I'm not really sure how a band's new CD is related to the plight of Native Americans, but I'm sure someone on here could try to make a connection.

"Ya know, that new ______ CD reminds me of how poorly we treated the Native Americans when we first arrived here. Let's talk about that instead".
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
