uaing a processor/pedal board for gigging
Ok, I wanna know who the "pedal gods" are so I can pick your brains about setting up my Korg ax3000g for gigging. Although I'm not a huge fan of pedals, the "one sound" for all my leads just ain't cuttin it. I'm in the dak here, fellas and could really use some solid advise. My previous experiences with boards/pedals is a tinny sound that doesn't cut through the rest of the band when it's time to unleash. We're playing mostly classic rock but need a heavier sound at times. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanx,

Is that the Flexwave 3-channel Crate?
Whatever it is, the 1st thing you should do is plug the guitar into the Korg's input and take the Korg's L(mono) output to the effects return on the Crate. Set the output on the Korg to "line" and test out the programs on the Korg. From there, you can decide whether you want to use your amp's preamp section or just go with the models on the Korg or use both. Some Korg tweaking may be required to get good sounds.
The Korg is pretty limited for amp models though...No Mesa Mark series solo...bummer.

On the upside, though, you're running a solid state amp. Tubes can
sometimes colour, or even muddy up, the floor systems.
Not familiar with the Korgs (Haven't looked a them since the...think it was
the G3 that Trevor Rabin used to use...). Can you send a line out to your
amp, or even a powered mon (If you want a dedicate guitar coming at you
rather than through a mon mix), and to the board? Might be worth checking
out taking the amp out of the scheme altogether if nothing else works.
Every time Boss or VOX comes out with a new one I start mulling... Dang
convenient looking.

the line setting run directly to the effects return on the amp seems to have cleared up the sound. Now I'll have to throw it in the mix at practice to see if it cuts through. Always sounded sweet by itself. It's all those other pesky instruments that seem to drown it out

Take your equipment to practice, and adjust it while you are playing.
Try boosting your mid frequencies and using less distortion. You probably won't think it sounds good, but it will sound completely different when everyone else is playing.

True. Getting a good "band" sound can be a lot of compromises to what
you want to hear coming out of your gear. Keep tweaking until you find
something that works for the ensemble, but also that you like enough so
as not to suck the life out of what you're doing as you play.
