I actually saw this and I think I got a chub I was so delighted, they came back from commercial and the band did a 3 count and began to play she was dancin round gettin ready to let it rip BUT the vocal never came she stood there for a min. then left the stage, they broke to commercial when they returned nothing was said the show went on , at the end of the show she said " I'm sorry my band started the wrong song and I couldn't get their attention to stop them. GREAT STUFF !!
I'm glad I didn't have to fight in a war, I'm glad I didn't get killed or kill somebody, I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood

Found this tidbit while searching around:

From Lucky Magazine interview with Ashlee Simpson:

LM: What are your takes on lip-synching?

AS: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me.

I was watching Saturday Night Live and I saw her bands first song, I laughed and made a comment to my girlfriend about Ashlee lipping all the vox and changed the channel because I was disgusted, I wish I would have kept it on and saw what happened. Is it just me or are any of you other musicians out there irritated by all these little brats that make a fortune and most of them don't even write their own songs?, Then they have the nerve to get on national TV and do a glorified Karaoke!!!!

Stonekrow,

This is worse because at karaoke, bad or not, you have to actually sing.

For the record, no-talent millionnaire fux like this piss me off.

WOW! I was flipping through and caught her lip'ing the other song she did, but I wish I would have witnessed that one!

I'd like to know how many takes she took in the studio just to get the crap on her album down? 5 minutes of watching her show and you could tell she'd never be able to pull off singing live. And she must like chicken, because she's pretty fou(w)l hersefl!

That's beautiful! I think my favorite part is when she knows she screwed it up and she starts dancing around like a retarded leprechaun. I lost it.

This just goes to show how much of a joke the mainstream music business is.

Oh well, at least she's better than Britney Spears. Britney can't even stay in key.

I guess you didn't see Ashlee on the RMA show tonight. She couldn't have found the right key with a map. Absolutely horrible.
I'd rather she lip-synched it.

Thay are all actually playing. It is pretty commonplace for bands to play along with a pre-recorded track for shows like SNL. They have reasons for doing it, like when an artist decides to change the lyrics, or other technical difficulties on stage. Many times what we hear on the TV is a mix of a prerecorded multitrack and the live performance. The end product is in the hands of the network mix engineer.

I felt bad for her even though she chickened out in the end and said that the band started playing the wrong song. You gotta give those musos credit for trying to salvage the performance. Other than the guy that did the miscue on the song, she is the only one that messed up.

Very classy of her to blame the band. I'm bummed. I always heard that SNL had totally live music.

One can only hope. Then maybe Mtv and mainstream music will come crawling back to what made them in the first place. You know...the bands that actually had the wierd thing known as STAYING POWER.

This was pulled off of Ashlee's Official Message board.

"Seriously, I don't sleep much for a start, and with flying from A to B and flying all over the f---ing place, it's just getting to me. And it showed. Joke is on me, you seem to enjoy it. I know what I said [in Lucky about disapproving of lip-synching], but when I get as worn out and beaten down as I do, sometimes I do not have the energy or the voice left. I have almost lost it due to nonstop moving about. So it is the only option."

Welcome to the music biz hunny.. If you can't hack it.. get out !...

Well, you can see where she learned how to be so classy blaming her band in public, in the article her dad said it was the drummer's fault. Now, is that really necessary? Hey Dwane, take it easy on the girl next time. Her vocal chords were even swollen from what you have done! And there is so much more I could say about that...
