Any good back doctors around?
My wife has been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (some kinda arthritis) and her doctors (PA'S) are fucktards. They know she is in crazy pain, but do nothing about it, and they came to a diagnosis really quick, too. That kind of makes me skeptical already, but they aren't doing shit now but giving her meds that put her to sleep. They won't give her pain meds cuz they just "mask the pain". No shit, isn't that the intention? To mask the pain til you fucking fix it? They tell her "go lay down for a while". She's at work. lol
Someone tell me of a good doctor we should call.

Kivitz and Murphy are the best for arthritis.
Kahlouf is the bast for pain management.
Burk is one of the best for back surgery.
My mother just had back surgery. Murphy sent her to Burk. I've heard good things about Burk from several of my customers. My mom is now without back pain.
Prayers for your wife...

Osgood is good - but old. Burk works with him and generally steadier and better trained. But that's hear/say.Bag wrote:Dr. Osgood in Altoona fixed my back. It took surgery but it was soooo worth it. He's an older guy with shaky hands, but don't let that scare you away, lol.
Seriously though, check him out.

I developed a bad back from sitting at a computer desk with bad posture for the last 15 years... It got progressively worse from 4 years ago until last year and the doctors said everything was generally fine and they couldn't do anything for me. The did recommed I see a chiropractor...
I was skeptical a chiropracter would help and didn't go for a while... But, eventually I gave in and had my back "adjusted". After a few months of adjustments, I feel much better now.
The father of the girl I'm dating is a chiropractor and he explained it to me like this... When the spine is out of shape or contorted - it sometimes can partially blocks the nerves and cause other pain throughout the body - and in many parts of the back/spine. When you get adjusted - one of the major things they do is straighten up the spine so the nerves can send signals clearly again.
I'm not saying it can help if she's got anything serious wrong, but it probably wouldn't hurt to try.

Plus I know a lot of rockpagers IRL. We're not always the retards we portray on the internet.

Best of luck with getting your wife treated and hopefully cured. A messed up back is some serious shit to deal with, and I'm going thru it myself, but I've been self medicating, probably for the worse in the long run, but I take care of my back and my head at the same time. Not a perm cure, but its working so far. Least til my liver gives way...
Mine too..And he took care of 2 discs in my back...Was glad to have it done also b/c living with it was terrible! Damn dirt bikes!!!Hawk wrote:Osgood is good - but old. hey
Brian, I had some pretty serious back surgery done last year by Burke, he's the best by far. He used to be the team Dr. for the Philadelphia Eagles! Going back there to get my shoulder done soon, he's probably the best around. He's at Blair Orthopedics out by Career Link.
Also agree, I see Murphy at Altoona Arthritus and he's really good too, what your wife has is a form of arthritus so you may want to check out there. Kivitz leans toward "experimental medicine" which a lot isnt even approved by the FDA yet, so I recommend that you check out Dr. Murphy.

Jim,
She's going to Kivitz now, and that guy is out of his mind with that experimental shit. Maybe he use his own wife for a Guinea pig. Plus she has only seen the doctor once out of like 6 visits. I'll tell her to ask for Murphy. If she needs surgery I'll keep Burke in mind. I hope it doesn't get that bad, but if they keep screwing around it's only gonna get worse.
Thanks

Hey
Brian,
That is the disease that Mick Mars has and what it eventually does is fuse your spine together which causes extreme pain and makes you lean forward without the ability to move your back and neck at all. It's pretty serious. I know cause they treat a lot of people out there for the same thing and these people look really bad.
Not trying to scare ya man, if you catch it quick enough you can actuallly manage it pretty well.
I have cronic rhumatoid (can never spell that) which breaks down all my joints. Murphy told me that I would have been in a wheelchair within 5 years if he hadn't started treating me when he did. I still do what I do and get out there and play every weekend. He's a great doctor. He only treats patients with proven drugs that work and he constantly monitors your progress and spends a lot of time with you.
Kivitz is bizarre, he get's paid a ton of money to try drugs that aren't FDA approved yet. You become a test specimen and most times the shit doesn't even help you. Check into Murphy. It may take her awhile to get in cause he's really busy but she won't be disappointed and she'll be taken care of the right way. Hope that helps ya bro.

Hey DS - Bad back is my cross to tote in this life. I am, as my many docs refer to me, a professional patient. Docs either love me 'cause I am experienced and well informed or they hate me for the exact same reasons.
The doc I would have recommended would be Welch at UPMC. He performed an outrageously risky surgery on me back in 2006. Unfortunately, he is no longer performing surgeries and is strictly teaching now. Burk studied under him and, I was told, is his protege.
I'm no doc but if memory serves Spondylitis describes the condition as being in development. In short, it is inflammation of the vertebrae. It can (not will) eventually develop into Spodylosis, which I also have. That being the degeneration of the spinal column and/or the fusion and immobilization of the vertebra.
She needs to stay proactive and push for answers. Refuse to leave until they start giving some. She needs to know what is causing the inflammation. Get her to a specialist that will order her an MRI, with and without contrast. That is round one.
If I can help in any way at all, PM me and I'll shoot you my digits.

My bad back came from years ago when my sister kneed me in the back. Actually she jumped on my back with both knees and the doctor then, who was my family doctor told me that I would have arthritis as I got older. Well, here I am at 45 and have some problems but instead of arthritis, I have fibermayalgia. My (bone) joints creak and crack like kindling, but Dr. Joseph Clark at Blair Medical told me that I would go through this for the rest of my life.JakeWilliams wrote:I developed a bad back from sitting at a computer desk with bad posture for the last 15 years... I would suggest the following: 1. Tell the doctor not the PA's, they dont know their shit. 2. Ask firmly and directly of the diagnosis and what you can expect and cannot expect. 3. Finally, if the doctor cannot come up with answers you are satisfied with ask for a referral and get a second opinion.
Your wife is in my prayers.
