In Politics it seems that it is "all or nothing". Problem is that I believe in helping those who need help yet I have been in business for myself for over 10 years. I love the thought of universal healthcare, but pay a shitload of money in taxes every month.
So, I like a lot of things that Ron Paul talks about and a lot of his viewpoints. I also like Baracks compassion and his intellect. You can catagorize me whatever way you want, I have never really fit into a label and probably don't now.
That is OK though. See I don't have to love everything about lonewolf or undercoverjoe to know that they are good guys and there are some (non partisan) things that we agree on.
Really when it comes down to it, I am pleased that I don't fit any of the labels you have available.
As far as Palin, I wasn't kidding. You know that Rob. In reality I agree that she might be the best candidate the GOP has.
right on man. i really do like ron paul. i think if the media didn't black ball him like they did palin, the country would be on the proper road. but, the republicans did kinda shoot themselves in the foot the second time bush jr. got elected.
This thread is one of my all-time favorite since 2002! LW steps to the plate, taps the dirt off his cleats, and jacks one into the cheap seats. "Dim Son." I love it. And Joe capitulates, sort of. At exactly the moment I was sick of this thread, it blooms like a rose.
Oh, and RobTheDrummer, I am not kidding, I would vote for YOU for president long before I would Sarah Palin. You're smarter, and not as far-right. She's the mean girl in high-school who acted nice to you, as long as there was a teacher nearby. I believe nobody could be worse for America. The press only gave her enough rope to hang herself, and she did. She doesn't deserve empathy, she deserves to get back all the negativity she exudes.--->JMS

Really, I always found her to be a positive person. She got negative once they let the dogs loose on her.

Well, come on guys, she ran on a family values & morality platform, like most wingers do, while allowing her teen daughter's boyfriend to live in, and of course, impregnate the said teen daughter. Same daughter became famous of Youtube for a potsmoking video... ordinarily, I'm not shy about that stuff, but my mom's not the avenging angel of the Republican party, and I'm not 17. Caribou Barbie dragged a Down's Syndrome infant all over America, as well, pointing to Palin's political drive over her maternal drive. Most people also noticed that, when she has on the offensive, she was a "pitbull with lipstick"... but when the harsh light shone on her, she quickly became a victim. It also became obvious that Palin was TREMENDOUSLY underqualified for the job, and intended to rely on her cult of personality to achieve. That's happened before with presidential candidates, many of whom won, but the American voter saw her lack of intelligence, experience and self-righteous demeanor in every media interview, they saw that her inclusion on the ticket was a stunt meant to energize the far-right base, and the Dems seized upon the opportunity, which is what they should have done.
Palin is, was, and never ever will be presidential material. Not because she's a woman, (America is way ready for that when the right one comes along) but because she lacks even one qualification to be president.---->JMS

So do you think Obama has the experience to be president? I mean can you name anything he's done to make this country better?

he upped welfare. he wants to pentagon to spend less than 100 million. he's nationalizing healthcare. he nationalized the banking industry... oh you said make the country BETTER... nevermind.

Before he ran for president? Well, for one, in 2004 the country was still firmly in the grip of the hardline right. We were taking lots of casualties in an unjust war, and we were still pretty shaken by 9/11. The right had used the "war on terror" to bludgeon everybody, fairly successfully, to a point where simply opposing the president's plans was considered absolutely un-American. They were swiftboating Kerry and planting stories to take down Dan Rather and other "liberal" media. Moderates and liberals were not welcome in the governing of America. Then a big-eared dude gave a speech at the Dem Convention, one he had already given a million times, and though people knew the GOP would retain power, they had their own Reaganesque speechifier. He was Harvard/Princeton, to appeal to college-types, young to appeal to women and Rock The Vote, and not part of the Beltway crowd, which appealed to moderates and independents. Plus, he was part black, so you had the historical civil-rights part in place, and if a powerful Republican said anything racial, it would go nuclear for the GOP. (Amazingly, it didn't.)
Personally, I think at first he was just cannon-fodder for Hilary's campaign, but he came off more likeable, and wound up winning.
SO, what did Obama do before the election? He didn't really have to do anything. People were sick of radical right-wingers, and the mess they made. The right tried everything they could to assassinate his character, from Jeremiah Wright to he's-not-born-in-America, and none of it stuck.
What did Palin do? She won a beauty contest, then a mayoral race 25 years later, then became governor a little while after that. Her resume includes cutting everyone in her state their own personal graft check, cozying up to oil companies, and a number of abuse-of-power investigations. And quitting, because she doesn't see how staying in office as a lame-duck would help.--->JMS

Spin it how ya like it, my friend. Last November was a referendum against the right-wing. ACORN didn't sign up a million new voters, they came a-running. They couldn't wait to cancel out your vote. Mine cancelled out Sean Hannity's.
Have you heard the latest on the rad-right talkers? Obama's going to institute forced euthanasia on old people! They're going to fund all abortions, too! And today on Savage, he said that NYC Mayor Bloomberg is using stimulus money to arm and train private secret police to enforce socialism. They can't be playing on people's deep-seated fears, it HAS to be true. Like JackANSI said, reductio ad hitlerum. Totally, completely transparent. --->JMS

Actually ACORN was doing lots of voter fraud. There's proof of that. Either way, none of this shit even matters anyway. We're already fucked and we have been getting fucked some time now by both parties. They all need a fucking reality check and wake up call.

There was no conservative right wing candidate running. McLoser was so close to the democrat party that Kerry SERIOUSLY considered having McCain run as his VP in 2000.
Last election was about a socialist running against a big government candidate. You sort out who was who, it doesn't really matter.

To sum it up, we the people voted for an all Republican government in 2002, expecting fiscal responsibility. Instead, we ended up up with something that didn't look much different than the all Democratic government that we got in 1993.
I guess the majority figured: why vote for a Republican government that spends like old-time Democrats when you can have the real thing?
Why? Because, like new-time Republicans, new-time Democrats are actually much worse than old-time Democrats...
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

EXACTLY. The problem is that we're supposed to forget that the people who voted for the new-time Republicans who screwed so much up, are the same ones now complaining the loudest. We know the money's going to be spent whether we want that or not... the question is, do we spend rich people's money, or poor people's money? Let's face it, it's not spending money that's a problem for conservatives. We spent HUGE in Iraq, and on defense, and conservatives would likely vote a trillion dollars to put up a fence down in Texas. Their focus is distribution and redistribution of wealth. Gov't programs are a downward redistribution... ooh, it just burns ya to see welfare bums living high on the hog. But tax cuts for the wealthy are UPWARD redistribution of wealth... and it burns me to see offices in the Caymans to avoid paying taxes I have to pay fully.--->JMS
songsmith wrote: But tax cuts for the wealthy are UPWARD redistribution of wealth...
Wrong on so many things god of liberal spin. I just found this one tidbit a bit laughable. Tax cuts for ANYBODY, rich or middle class (the poor do not pay federal taxes) is just letting people keep their own money. Our money is not the governments to redistribute.
