Borrrring, but painless.

I tried giving up caffeine once because of an inner ear infection (caffeine amplifies vertigo)... I lasted 3 days, and was so irritable my wife begged me to go buy a Mountain Dew. Plus the worst headache in history. Never again.

I really only drink coffee in the morning, so freshness usually isn't too much of an issue. Top's diner and Miller's diner in Mill creek both have pretty good java, as does the truck stop in Lamar, if you gig along I-80, it's a popular band stop. They have pretty good food, too.

Dunkin's is consistently good, and kicks ass with a berry bagel. My favorite Starbuck's is African Kitamu, it's pretty bold and the caffeine bump is firm but not too much. It goes good with something sweet like fruit pancakes, it's really earthy and roasted dark. My buddy chuck Cox used to live in Hawaii, and swears he'll never have a good cup of coffee again, fresh roasted Kona must really kick ass, maybe someday I'll get to try it.
Anyone try a French press? I'm dying to try one. I have several friends who rave about them.--->JMS

I use a french press a lot instead of the brew type. One word to the wise, get one that's 2 piece meaning the plunger and the caraff which should be stainless steel or metal. If you get a glass beaker they break VERY easily. I've broken 2 & you can't find replacement easliy. It make a true flavored cup of coffee.

I heard Kona is wonderful. It's not cheap though. It's up there with the cat poop coffee.

Yes, Kona coffe is expensive, even in Kona. We drank plenty while there though by going to coffee tours in the morning. Drink all of their free samples, but we bought bags from several places we visited. It was great coffee. Also the Blue Mountain coffee when I was in Jamaica is fantastic.
As an aside, also in Kona we went to a Kava bar...they cook up this stuff from the Kava herb and ladle it out into wooden soup bowls that you drink. It was a nice buzz that is a natural sedative. It would never be legal here in PA! Taste was quite odd, sort of like drinking muddy water.

fresh ground

Fresh ground Eight O clock coffee is the normal at home. I also order a lot of beans on line ( coffee beans! ). I like the Blue Mountain Blends and Hawaiian. I also like Costa Rican blends they are a bit more bitter though.

We have also messed with roasting our own beans but that stuff fucks me up. The caffeine level seems to be way high. Makes me a bit jittery, like I need that...

I use a Keurig System. Much much better than home brewed with a normal coffee maker! Plus you can switch up from cup to cup! Make you strong like bull!!!

Try Green Mountain Coffee. You won't be disappointed. It's the best I've ever tasted and I've had all but one of the brands listed on this thread. They sell it at choice, I believe and possibly unimarts. You can also buy it at giant and other grocery stores with a great selection. It's around 8 bucks a bag when not on sale, but there is nothing that even approaches it.

I like sheetz coffee, and really like McDonalds and Dunkin' Donuts (especially for dipping donuts in!).

If I had to put them in order...

1st. Green Mountain (by several degrees)
2nd. Dunkin donuts
3rd. McDonalds
4th. Sheets

I also have to say that the best coffee related drinks are the Starbucks Java Chip Frappucino and the BK Iced Joe (I think that's what it's called).

The burger king iced joe is probably the best coffee drink I've ever had in my life, but much like starbucks, i don't dig their plain joe, so they're not even in the running.
