Best coffee/worst coffee

Post by REDillon »

I just stopped at MickyD's & I have to say their coffee sucks. I'm not talking the crapachinos, just the regular coffees. Awful.

In Johnstown the best REGULAR coffees are the A-Plus in the West End of town. No, REALLY. And Villiage Street in Moxham. Love the Morning Buzz. Who doesn't love double the caffine??

Any where else? Don't tell me Folgers either.

I like the Dark Roast and The Breakfast Blend from Sheetz.
Dunkin Donuts has some good stuff.

I'm not really a Starbucks kinda guy.

To brew at home, I'd say Ghivalia has a bunch of good stuff or try

Ellis- The William Penn Blend is awesome, and the Presidential is probably the best.

Ellis? Never heard of it. Is it for home brewing? Oooh, I thought of another place that you wouldn't think has good coffee, Valley Dairy. I think they put crack in it cause it's pretty damn good for a regular cup of Joe....or Melvin.

Haven't been to Valley Dairy in a few years. Ellis is a coffee supply place in Philly who has their own blends. Idk if you can buy it in stores.

Worst Coffee= Sheetz regular.

Worst home brew = Maxwell House
Best at home = Gevalia, New England (pale yellow bag), lots of other good choices that are $$, but for affordable I like all of the 8 O'Clock varieties a lot.
Worst restaurant brew = probably mcdonalds (for one thing its so damn hot) but their new mcCafe specialties are delicious. Also beware of sit-down restaurant coffees because servers that are not coffee drinkers will serve you coffee that has been sitting on the burner for 3 hours (esp. this time of year) because they think that doesn't matter. It matters.
Best restaurant brew = Dunkin Donuts and the Cheese House in State College absolutley rules.

I generally like the Sheetz varieties; the dark roast works especially well after 2 AM for the drive home.

Best eatery coffees: I like both Perkins and Eat'n Park. And if we ever get one in this neck of the woods, Waffle House brews up some great coffee!

Home varieties: I'm a Folger's drinker.

Worst home variety: McDaniel's Coffee (the el-cheapo variety you purchase at Save-A-Lot). I'd rather brew peat moss and drink it than ever touch McDaniel's again. (When I was at the Q, I actually was going to buy a can of McDaniel's coffee and then plant seeds in it to see if they would grow, and then report the results on the air...)

While this is true in most cases, I must disagree and say that the girls at Tops Diner along Rt. 22 in Mill Creek has good coffee and makes sure the pots are fresh. Also great food.

Ask any local trucker on the road, they'll tell you, "If you want to stay awake, you drink sheetz coffee."

I'll agree Sheetz is drinkable but for my discernable palate (ya like that one?) it's not something I CRAVE and yup, I do crave coffee. Except my own. My coffee tastes like witches brew, no matter what brand I buy.

Any one ever have that cat poop coffee? The one from the civit cat? One of the world's most expensive coffee.

Sheetz cappuccino is pretty good, but when it comes to coffee - Nothing beats Starbucks. Especially, their iced coffee ...

it's hard for me to find a good cup of coffee since I drink decaf...yes, I know what is the point if it's decaf?? Well, I like the taste of coffee, but a strong dose of caffeine and I will end up in the ER.

Sheetz makes a wonderful decaf and so does Perkins. The decaf I have had at Dunkin always has tasted burnt. I won't go to Starbucks anymore since they can't make most of their specialty drinks in decaf.. But, I must admit, once while in the hospital I had THE BEST coffee ever, unfortunately, LEE Hospital is no longer around and fortunately I have not had to try Memorials here.

Anyone else drink decaf or am I the lone ranger on this one??

After the series of kidney stone tortures I experienced last summer, I have given up all caffeine. No coffee, tea, colas, no iced teas. Just ice cold water.

Borrrring, but painless.

Thats funny you say that because while doing an internship for my job there (~9 months) I think I remember that Lee Hospital used that Ellis coffee that dirtysanchez mentioned. It is a coffee especially used by the food service industry. Isn't Lee hopital still there, just a different name? They probably have the same coffee but hope you don't go there!

Lee is part of Conemaugh now so who knows if they use the same vendors.

They opened a Dunkin Donuts in J,town and the donuts taste like your eating cigarette butts. I had the coffee too and it tasted burned and like it had cigarettes in it. I'm not a smoker, my husband is a chimney but I know when food/drink tastes like ass.

I had a cup o' coffee from that chain The Coffee Bean Cafe. The coffee was good. I like strong, flavorful coffee that punches me in the face, but it shoudn't taste burnt or ass-flavored.

Iced mochas rule though!

I roast my own coffee. It costs about $4.00/lb. It tastes great, best coffee EVER, but now I can't drink anyone else's muck! Other than that, try Commonplace Coffeehouse and Roastery's coffee near Penn State Altoona. Freshest coffee around. We bring our own "Street Band Blend" when we perform there:)

Best/worst coffee

Post by joltinjeff »

If I am out driving around or at work it is Sheetz. When I stop in there before going hunting or fishing its Sheetz.
When I am at home it is whatever is on sale. 8)
