Heads Up! Nick Campbell's birthday scam is at it again.
Here's the email scam message:
"Good Day,
I am interested in having your band to come and perform in my birthday party which will be hold in Baltimore, MD.
I heared about your band through the word of mouth, please let me know if your band is available on 08/29th, i'll appreciate it if you can get back to me with your phone numbers and also with the amount you'll ask for to perform on that day.
I'll appreciate it if you can get back to me as soon as you get the message.
Regards,
Nick.. "

It doesn't work that way.bfoust wrote:It can probably be identified by Ron since it's most likely coming through this site, ie: Band Pages.
You'll just need to give Ron the IPs from the email, if they're not using proxies to send them
In the band pages you have a link to your email address.
Person X on the web (anywhere) clicks on your email address link.
Person X's email client creates an email to you on his computer.
Person X adds his message and sends the email.
The email goes from his computer to your email server.
All that I could do with an IP supplied by you is block it completely, which wouldn't help much, because it is highly unlikely that a scammer would go one by one through the band pages to gather email addresses. A bot could do it, but a scammer also isn't going to spend the time to write a bot to parse just this site. Myspace is a different story.
Only you can prevent this type of thing from happening, by learning to recognize scams.
... and then the wheel fell off.

Ron, not tryin to bang heads here or anything, but do you know how easy it is to find a proggy to dig up email addresses from an old phpbb like this?
No, this is not another 'zomg letz get teh vbull' reply. Just sayin...
But i do agree with Ron. If youre dumb enough to fall for it, have fun at the wedding

Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.
Dude, if you can find a "proggy" on the web that I can run and get all of the band page emails I'll give you $100.00. I want a URL within a week, and you'll get your Benji. Ron, just 'apt-get install hackrockpagelib2-dev'
ron, think you misunderstood a bit. Its not like you can go to download.com, type in 'program to hack rons custom bandpages and get list of emails' click download, open it, and BAM.
I see this coming down to the last part of Kill Bill vol 1.
I run into rockpage, yell RON!!!!!!!
Like 400000 rockpagers come at me, he runs out back after i destroy them all. Then we go ninja style with our hanzo's in the snow.
I'm sayin theres tons of exploits for this software, some as simple as editing a local cookie from firefox, others requiring sql injection. I told your 'bet' to these crazy fuckers from all over the globe I code with and theyre helping me dig up links of all the possible exploits.
Before you kill me, i did not make mention of the site in any way, or do I plan on trying any of these exploits. I've been filtering thru them and I'm going to compile a list of the sites so I can show you in a pm what possibilities are out there, and knowing you, alot of them may be fixed, but my hope is to really, if it is an email vulnerability from this website, have you find/know the possible problem and help come up with a solution.
Wow, theres whole sites devoted to this stuff... People must really have nothing better to do.

Colton, the band pages aren't phpbb. So phpbb exploits won't work.
Believe me, there are about 100 attempts at hacking this site every day, from all over the world.
And email doesn't work that way. See my post above. When you click on an email link on a webpage, the email doesn't go through the server where the link is.

Did you just make that up? Haha.Colton wrote:'apt-get install hackrockpagelib2-dev'

Did your Mom make that up? Haha.Colton wrote:'apt-get install hackrockpagelib2-dev'
yeah. If you'd quit sleepin over there you wouldnt know all this shit.
Again tho, i'm talkin about getting emails from the site itself, not your custom band page software.

It's just a contact email. If you want to book a band, you have to have a way for people to get in touch with you. This all goes back to the fact that people need to be able to recognize scams. No software can prevent an unknown person from sending you a scam email or calling your phone.Colton wrote:Again tho, i'm talkin about getting emails from the site itself, not your custom band page software.
