Q-Tron should work for guitar

MXR has one just for guitar, the M-188 is for bass.

If you can find them, the old Boss AutoWahs were really cool. Depends
on what you're looking for. The best use of the Boss, from my view, is
by Brian Futter of Catherine's Wheel. He didn't use it like a wah so much
as an odd flange/phaser combination.

But, can't go wrong with Boss.

i ever tell anyone how much i hate almost all of boss's pedals? they just sound so harsh and digital to me. i have a boss bass chorus that, although it sounds ok, it dosn't sound amazing... at least not to my ears.

mxr, electro-harmonix... those are great sounding pedals... and usually, i think they mostly make nice, creamy, warm analog pedals.

nothing against anyone that likes boss... just saying is all...

For the most part I agree about Boss, but there are two boss pedals that are considered the best stompboxes in their category in the industry. One is the DD-5 (digital delay) which is now discontinued. Another is the ph-2 (phaser), often used by bands such as Incubus in the studio and live. Both are GREAT PEDALS. The DD-5 is the best digital delay available for live shows in my opinion. Countless recording musicians use them and I personally think their sound is unbeatable. I have played both the ph-2 and the small stone extensively (had both) and I kept my old 70's russian made sovtek/eh small stone and sold the boss. The boss was a great second, but NOTHING beats the old russian small stones--the USA small stones don't even come close--in my book for phasers. No contest.

This has nothing to do with auto wahs. It's just a comment on boss pedals. I'd listen to the great advice of JackANSI and VentGtr for the autowah. Those guys both know their stuff.

I'd agree there are pedals that can sound better in some instances (And
for recording the Boss "click" can sometimes be heard). Taking durability
into consideration as well, I like the little steel tanks better than most stuff.

Didn't used to feel that way, but after going through other stuff...

This particular ped is pretty highly sought. Again, may not be what you're
looking for. It's not goin' to get a Crybaby sound or anything, but a cool,
unique kind of effect.

I've always used Boss stomps... not exclusively, because I'll listen to anything, but almost exclusively. I particularly like the Auto-Wah or Touch-Wah, it does what it says. I also like the Super Chorus (mines 20+ years old and still flawless), the Blues Driver, Overdrive, Tuner, and hell, even the Metal Zone. The only one I didn't like (that I owned) was the Acoustic Simulator, and that's because I'm really picky about acoustic tone, and it just didn't sound much like an acoustic.
The other considerations are the toughness (if you break a Boss, you're trying too hard), and the low cost.
I'd like to find a used Auto-Wah for my lapsteel rig, just to add a slight "Q" envelope to soften pick attack.--->JMS

Ya, I have one of those really old ones that have the knobs 3 inline.
Apparently, it's the pedal that caused them to change to their common
layout. If you're standing over it playing you can't see the light. Bit of
a design flaw, but, hey, they did fix it. Kudos for that.

The "chorus" effect is a more subtle one (Can hear it on tons of early
80s albums) than one later Chorus peds. In fact, the one I normally
use is a cheaper Series10 Boss knockoff. Best chorus pedal I've ever
heard and the cheapest pedal I've ever bought. Got it in '89 or '90 for,
like, $35. Still working (With the help of lots of soldering and replacing
all the wires through the years).

I do use the DD-20 and the RT-20. They are both amzing pedals. As far as harsh sounding mine don't. I had several digitech products and they sounded to digital to me. They didnot have that smoothness that the Boss pedals have. I did a factory reset on my Korg pedal and its working fine now. But i would still like a auto wah only pedal.
