Congratulations: Felix and the Hurricanes - 20 Years!
I hope the Hurricanes have taught the rest of you as much as they've taught me. They were the first band to allow me to play harmonica onstage, and that's the best place to get better at your craft. I didn't sound so great then (and I've gotten only slightly better), but they always pulled me up to play no matter what.
I can remember being up with them at New Sab's, and looking back at Felix... he had his eyes closed, and you could see the tears in them as he wrenched the notes out of his Strat. It was a breakthrough for me. I learned you could take all the lessons you want, but it's best to simply feel an emotion, then speak it through your instrument. (He also gave me a guitar lesson or two in the 20 years I've known him!) He once said, "I'm looking for a note that comes from two inches past the end of my finger," and pointed to the center of his chest. I knew what he meant.
Bobby and Jeff are a dead-on rhythm section, honed by decades of steady work, and are both consummate pro's. I'm always happy when they ask me to play, and I brag on them at every opportunity.
Plus, they're my friends.
The article should be in Rolling Stone, but still, congrats on a well-deserved tip of the hat!--->JMS

Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

CONGRATS! It was so cute when Thomas brought the Mirror in Friday a.m. & said, while pointing to the little box on the front page: "Hey, is that Felix??? Cool!" He then proceeded to read the article to me while I was busy at the sink.
Heck, I'm STILL smiling from the last time I went to Shaw's a few weeks ago! Colton sat in for a tune or two and Musicians from...darn, I forget the name of the Band...joined in for quite a few tunes I hadn't heard in a long, long time, and "Green Grass and High Tides"? Even the short version when it's closing time,
NOBODY does it better.
My children and I wish you boys all the best!

I definitely learned a lot from all three of The Canes, not to mention the Canes who have passed through the band or have done sub work with them. When I played in my first real band, Relative Minor, we did a benefit gig with The Canes at the Ferris Wheel. After that, I use to name drop them because I thought that it gave me some sort of credibility as a musician, especially since I was so young and most people didn't take me seriously (sorry for the run-on, Capt. G).
