I'm actually partitioning my harddrive and installing ubuntu 9.04 right now. Its the shizzle.
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

Make sure you have at least 3 gig ram for optimum, no problems here.

you will someday.

Imagine if you'd said you'd never move from windows 3.11 in like 1996.

everytime a new OS comes out you have a million people complaining that the old one was better. Eventually everyone moves over and the cycle continues.

I remember when XP came out, people hated it. It looked really dumb, until you figured out how to change the theme back to standard windows, and everyone really liked windows 2000.

The only duds Microsoft really ever had were WindowsME, and probably Windows Vista.

The audio stability for xp is better than vista for sure. lots of plugins and hardware dont work with vista. 90% of all audio engineers using windows use xp because its stable and compatible with audio stuff. if it turned out that windows 7 can also be stable and compatible with audio stuff, then i may switch. after its released of course. i would then have to delete all the flashy shit with it. like the gadgets and superbar stuff. those are are bad bad bad for an audio workstation. you want NOTHING running but the music software.

nobody is denying that windows XP is a better operating system for what you are trying to do right now. I'm just saying imagine paying money to go to a studio and they are running fucking Apple IIe computers.

The computer i'm running windows 7 in is a P-4 - 2.2, with 1 gig of ram thats pc-133 and it works fine. I'm not using it for audio recording. I have a better one for that and im still running xp on it.

The OS needs at least a gig, you will be hitting your swap file alot.
