Hey guys,
I bought a Pearl Rythym traveler and the hardware is in really bad shape. The lugs, tuners, stands, hoops, all of it.Some surface rust some pitting..some oxidation..Its a playable set but was wondering if anyone knows any miracle/secrets as far as cleaning it up?The only thing I can think of is fine steel wool? The shells are in good shape...
Oh ya...Ive never seen sooOO much duct tape on a drum set.. any tips on removing the residue? Thanks in Advance.

Fine steel wool will clean up the rust without scratching and WD-40 should remove the residue from the duct tape.
Any kind of steel wool will put some scratches on it.
You can get a 32oz jug of rust remover at Autozone for $8--it comes in a silver-gray jug. Take everything apart and dip the parts overnight and follow the directions.
If that doesn't get it all, you can also get some Turtle wax chrome polish with rust remover and clean them up with that. Use cotton balls to rub it out and then finish with a lint-free cloth.
After you get the rust off, take some wd40 and re-lube the springs & moving parts.
You can use rubbing alcohol to get duct tape residue off. Some drug stores carry 100% denatured alcohol and you have to sign for it. I'd try it on a small area to make sure that it doesn't hurt the finish.
