Figured out how to get a great sound out of this processor
I left it in the case!
Nothin like a vintage fender cranked to high hell.
Anyone need a Digitech GNX-2?

Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

I like analog everything. Digital=harsh. The high end always sounds...off...on those multieffects processors.
The digital stuff is getting better, though. I think it's a lot like digital cameras. It took them awhile to catch up to 35mm and now they are all but indistinguishable. I think digital will get there, but it's not now.

I use a Boss DD-20 ANd a Boss RT-20 for my pedals. I love 'em both together. Try the RT-20 if you can find one used. It is a awsome pedal. It's a rotory pedal and I thought I wouldn't like it but no way it kicks some ass. Like you I lost interest in the digital guitar pedals. It has it's own over drive which works nice.hicksjd9 wrote:I like analog everything. Digital=harsh. The high end always sounds...off...on those multieffects processors.

Try to find a find a Boss GT-6 they are great processors for live stuff.
Try the Behringer V-amp line too. I have had wonderful luck with them.
I have seen bad reviews on the Behringer stuff but they are mostly from 10 year olds posting on musician's friend. Any one that has been playing for any length of time will have no trouble getting a good sound. It just takes some time messing with the settings.
The V-amp is great for studio work though. I haven't used it live yet.

Oh, theres nothing wrong with this processor. It's served me very well for years and sounds great.
Just nothing in the world sounds as good as a vintage fender blasted like youre trying to smoke it.
Think it was bill at practice:
"You gotta be careful with that old thing"
Me:
"Pfft, they make tubes"

I used to tout over the Line 6 POD XT Live like it was the second coming of Christ...used it all the time.
Luckily, Terry at Guitars-N-Stuff finally pointed me in the right direction...tubes.
I still have the POD...I use it at home for quiet jamming, and it actually does sound good when used for recording scratch tracks or riff ideas. It still serves a purpose...just not on stage and in my rig.

yea, i think the digital stuff really shines on recordings, but when you want that "over the tippy top of tube tone" i think you need to have tubes. it dosn't really matter though, at least not to the people standing in front of the stage. they don't know tone.
one of the best processers i've heard is the new zoom bass processor. the biggest one that they make has a tube in it... so there you go. i think most of the bass stuff with a tube preamp section and a solid state power section sounds awsome... not as good as straight up tubes... but still alot better than what you can get from most digital crap.

I just recently got an all-tube bass head off of Dusty (EOABassist) at a price I just couldn't pass up. I love the way the thing sounds. It has a really huge sound, but still has plenty of definition and tightness. The open low B is as tight as Chad Smith's snare drum. When it comes to the debate with bass amps, I really don't prefer one over the other. In my experience, an all-tube amp still won't have the articulation and quick response of the most high-end solid-state bass amp. However, I've yet to hear a solid-state amp produce the engulfing sound of a tube amp. I'm actually considering talking to my sound engineers about two channels on the board, racking my SS preamp, and running two DIs.
I've just always had these crazy ideas about multiple signals and running effects on one channel while keeping the other clean. Hmm...wonder if Terry or Metalchurch Joe would be into modding my bass to be stereo like a Rickenbacker.
But I really dig the sound of this new amp!

Thanks, Scott!!! Everyone really seems to be digging it. Last week, I was getting a little bit of electrical noise through the DI, and my sound engineer refused to give me a DI box because he was really into the amp's sound. I let Ryan use it as backline during Slacker's set at the Reed Benefit, and I really dug how it sounded out front.

that head sounds amazing, by the way. what a shame mesa quit making them. paul, your a madman. bi-amping like john entwistle and whatnot. your going to have one hell of a bass tone. now all you need is a giant stack of speakers.
