I have a mid 90's Carvin Custom. It has one volume and one tone,a three way switch, two coil splitters, and two M22 humbuckers. What I want to do is have two volume knobs like a Les paul. One volume for the bridge and one for the neck pickup. I want rid of the coil splitters as I do not like single coils. I never use the tone knob so I thought why not wire it as a second volume? Seems simple enough but nobody I have asked has any clue. And I am not an electronics guy so I am looking for some help. If any of you out there can help me out or at least point me in the right direction I would be very gratefull.
Thanx
Thanks for the les paul schematic. One question though. How do you wire it without the tone knob? Is that possible? I just have room for two control pots. I dont want to drill the body. Could I replace the tone with something to compensate that would fit in the body cavity?
Looks to me as though the tone knob is wired in parallel so you should be able to simply remove it and its wiring. Any grounds from other components making a connection there may need to be rerouted to another source of ground though.
I'm not an ace on electronics but give that a try.
Here is a schematic for one pickup, no tone. Wire each pickup like this and wire the outputs from the volume pot to the toggle switch and then from the toggle switch common to the output jack as in Tonefight's schematic.
