Why Do people go to bars ????
Why Do people go to bars ????
I Think in my personal experience people go to bars to HOOK-UP with the opposite sex and DRINK the music is a distant third (not everybody but I think most people) ... I always thought it was funny to hear bands argueing because someone missed there spot to come in or hit a wrong note or cord because within reason nobody who isn't a die hard muscian noticed because the average person is to busy checking out the blonde at the end of the bar or trying to get there next beer ... WHAT DO YOU THINK KEEPING IN MIND THAT MOST PEOPLE ON ROCKPAGE ARE DIE HARD MUSCIANS !!!!
EYE ROCK FOR LEAH APRIL 30th AT 30 SOMETHING ...
I agree with you 100%. I've said a lot of times (and many of my bandmates have said as well) that we play bars to make money so that we can record or buy sound for the band or drink for free or pay our gas or buy new gear, etc. The list goes on. I think all of us deep down realize that most of the people at the bar aren't there to see us. I've always liked playing all age shows the best (even though you don't make the big bucks) because those guys are there JUST for the music!!! It's a great feeling! I honestly wouldn't play bars if I could find some other place to play or way to promote my music for the reasons you listed in your post.
By the way, I always loved playing at Peter C's. I think we played there 5 or 6 times before the bar closed. It was a great introduction to the music scene and playing out in general. We were always treated well. Thanks again for the opportunity!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Theyre out to get nailed or some head.
I only frequent one bar really, Shaw's in juniata, cause i know pretty much everyone there. About the only cool place I've found since you've had Peter C's (Which i miss DEARLY). I only go out to a bar to see a band anymore. Most of the bars in this area I would have never stepped foot in unless someone like slacker theory (first time i was ever in 4d's for more than 5 minutes), or the hurricanes are playing (wheres rubines? gotta be there tonite!)
Actually, I probably would have never just decided to check out shaws in the first place if I hadnt known they were gonna be there that first night..

the only reason i go to a bar is to see live music. theres only been a handful of times i've went to socialize and/or drink.
most of the time when im at the bar, im just gonna be sitting there by myself listening to the music. and watchin the band play and take in everything i can learn by just watching. ehh maybe im a dork lol i dont care.
i frequent one bar ... the trackside, mainly cause of the jamnights and music there.

guess i'll give a female's perspective...
I don't go to a bar just to drink (unless it's happy hour) or hook up (cuz I don't "hook up"). ?Even when I was single and NOT in a band, I went for the music---whether it was a DJ or an awesome band, that's the reason I went out. Every one of my girlfriends are the same way. If they can't find any place local that has a decent band, they usually just stay home. We all go to the bars to drink AND dance. Neither is fun without the other.
Now that I'm not single and am in a band...well, now I will actually travel to non-local bars if there's an awesome band booked that night.
Maybe I'm in the minority...or maybe the reasons women/those in relationships go to bars are different than the reasons men/single folks go? idk.

Big John, I agree there's a demographic that's in it to potentially get laid but come on man, you're skimming the surface. I'd say the majority of people go to bars to celebrate something (the weekend, a special occasion, life in general, etc.) or to forget their own personal reality, whatever that reality is. Whether it's a shitty job, shitty marriage/relationship or a loss of some sort (death of someone close, a job, etc.) Either way, I would say those there strictly to score are in the minority and probably under 25. Still, the entertainment factors in to where they end up, regardless. So does the establishment/staff/atmosphere. I know people who go out cuz they like certain bands. Some like to dance. Some like to play pool or shoot darts. Others are hard core into karaoke. And yes, some go out looking for action. But to say that most people are there simply to sniff around is off base. It does matter what's going on at a place, otherwise, bars wouldn't have anything inside but booze, condom machines and cots. r:>)
That's what she said.
I go either because I have to play at one (LOL) or because I want to see a band. I can drink at home for less and not risk a DUI and I'm guaranteed a "hookup"...my wife's always around the house somewhere.

Is that really guaranteed? From what I've heard about marriage...

I go to see the band foremost, drink 2nd, ogle women 3rd (Just looking is ok, right Jeane?) I actually get annoyed when people wanna shoot the breeze while the band is playing. When you've been getting your ears pulverized for 25 years, it's hard enough to hear without background noise, let alone when a band is playing. I go to alot of shows and I will travel pretty good distances from home to do so.
I've seen lots of great bands because of reading about them here. And there's a bunch more I'm trying to get to. I enjoy reading this page every day, even the stuff that seems to annoy some folks. That stuff usually just amuses me. Oh and one last thing...
PLEASE PUT YOUR BAND'S SHOWS IN THE "SHOW SCHEDULE" SECTION!
Thank you!

Not everyone goes to bars to "hook-up". Some go there to relax, get away from work, have a some drinks, listen to some bands or w/e music is playing at the time... and chill out... maybe shoot some pool or just b/s with people.... After some drink enough, then prolly their mind begins to wander around lookin.... but thats "some" not "everyone"

Or some just go to enjoy themselves... have drinks and party on!

Why is that? Seeings it has nothing to do with the current threads topic... but im curious as to why people that goto bars other than to hook-up are gay?PanzerFaust wrote:To all the people saying they go to bars for reasons other than to... as the kids say "Hook Up".....
YOU'RE GAY!!!!!!!
Cause as far as I remember and that I know... I have a g/f and have had one for the past 14 years... We goto bars to see the bands, have some drinks and have fun... not to "hook-'up" So that makes me gay ?
Strange things that people do, to change the subjects of threads... but... I guess I followed into it, as I kept the "change" going...
But its something that I guess needed a response to.
I've NEVER gone to a bar to hook up. I don't want to take some random girl home and have to go get antibiotics, ya know? I like the thrill of the chase (but not too much chase), and some girl with cigarettes and booze and vomit on her breath just hasn't appealed to me since I got past my early 20s. Not downing anyone who's into that. That's totally cool if ya are, it's just not me. Now if I took her to the bar or I knew her from somewhere else...different story.
Maybe I'm too conservative...or possibly gay? I thought liking dicks made you gay (if you're a guy, of course). I don't like dicks...well, I LOVE mine, but I only have one so it's just A dick (not dickS with an s on the end). Apparently Mr. Faust has presented us with a new definition of what it means to be gay. He has me thinking...Football players called me gay a lot in high school. Maybe the football team looked up "gay" in the dictionary and it said "People who go to bars for any reason other than to hook up." They must have known I wasn't into that! It all makes sense now!

I think it's pretty obvious why I go to bars...Music most nights, wings Monday night and pizza Wednesday night.
Seriously, though, I think all of the reasons enumerated above are viable. I also think in general, people like to socialize, and bars provide that opportunity for friends and co-workers to get together outside of their jobs, shoot the breeze, get caught up on each others' lives, discuss news of the day and other stuff. Especially if groups of friends all hang out at the same place, there's the sense of comfort in going to a bar and knowing that you'll run into at least somebody you know and can talk to.

actually, that's why i usually miss a note or a chord... because i'm lookin at the hotties.
yea... most people never notice the fuck ups. i even know of some musicians that can never tell, either. so what does it matter? well... you still gotta sound good and play well! people may not notice a couple of wrong notes a night, but they still know what cover songs you play are supposed to sound like.
Can you identify a genital wart?
Good analogy.Flaw wrote:I saw the same topic on Jockpage.net, the topic was "why do all the high school kids go to football games." Yeah cause all the kids do is walk around the track and socialize. They didnt even see the star running back make the game winning touchdown.
As a younger guy, I went to places in search of the elusive bedcat, but there had to be a decent band. They could have the Pussycat Dolls playing naked crab-soccer, and if there wasn't some live music, I'd rather be at Hill Valley Hotel. For me, there had to be a viable way to work "I play in a band" into the conversation, otherwise I was out of luck.
But, for the record, I went to dozens of HS football games, and can't recall ever seeing more than one play per game.

Why?
People go to bars for all Reasons.
People go where people are!
It changes with age.
I remember when people went to bars for fights.
So glad the bars we play at aren't like that.
You Know when they are there to see you versus Just There.
I would rather play to 25 people that came to see us versus 500 that don't care.
Thank you Half Tempted Fans!Shaw's was great Last night but we missed Coltan???

Ronnyd You more than all of us are privy to research into why people are in the bars and witch bas they are in .... I don't think you can honestly say that bars where the cool hot kids hang out are not the busiest regardless of what noise is in the back ground ...

I can't speak for anyone else other than myself and a few friends that I occasionally bring out, but...
Usually the primary reason I'm at a bar is for the bands. We live in dire financial times, and drinking myself stupid can be done on a cheaper buck with a different set of friends. As far as getting laid,... Have I wanted to? Well, yeah... Wanting to get laid tends to happen. But then it's not a reason for me to be at a bar either. It hasn't effected my chances on any given night, and that's fine and well by me. That isn't my intention for walking in and paying whatever cover to begin with
