I feel for you bikers because I get it on the opposite scale - a truck driver. Apparently 98.2% of people in this state think because there's more wheels on my dump truck, I have alot more braking power therefore they can pull out in front of me at the last minute. All the while I'm standing up on the brake pedal hoping that I can keep 40 tons of metal from making road pizza out of a Ford Focus. I know most people don't want to be behind a slow truck...I hate it myself when cruising in my car...I get pretty testy. But my argument is if you live in an area where you know heavy truck traffic to be...allow yourself extra time to compensate.
My REAL bitch is this passing lane BS. People clogging traffic up because they have to go a mere 1/2 to 1 mile an hour faster to the car next to them. Worse yet...the passing lane is their personal cruising lane and they're out there by themselves, setting themselves up for the left turn or exit that's another 3 to 4 miles down the road. There is a left lane - pass only law in PA. $150 if a cop decides to enforce it.
Oh yeh, one last little rant. If you're thinking of passing a truck...two or four lane highway...whatever...PASS and get it done!!! It scares me to death when people ride right next to my tires....especially bikers. It may not be something you think about regularly, but if you're cruising alongside those tires at say 55 or 65 MPH and one of them blows...your life is in danger. It's been proven on Mythbusters that a chunk of truck tire at 40 MPH can take a person's head clean off should it go thru the windshield. This isn't a bitch, but a plea...please...get around us ASAP. Besides, should an emergency maneuver be needed I don't want to have to squash someone because they were compromising my safety zone. I try like hell to keep a safe cushion around me at all times. But I've had people ride along my tires and when I speed up or slow down to get them away from me, they just match my speed and I'm like Uuuuuugh! Just do the deed and move along...please.

When a truck tire blows, it sounds like a cannon going off, and the tread will fly.
Like I said, people just don't want to be behind a truck. Doesn't matter if said truck is going faster than they want to go or not. "Oh, I'll just pass him, then slow down when I get in front of him."

It's not just trucks either. When you're passing someone, get it the fuck done and get the fuck back in the right lane. Just today, I'm on the bike heading towards Harrisburg, and some douchebag decides he needs to pass 66 mph traffic at 67 mph. Then when he FINALLY gets ahead of the the front car, does he get over, FUCK NO! Does it matter to him that there's a line of 6 cars (and one bike) behind him? FUCK NO! He's Mr. Oblivious. Here's a hint for everybody, if you're cruising along and look in your mirror, and there's 3 or more vehicles behind you.... PULL THE FUCK OVER, or SPEED THE FUCK UP! (Please don't wait for a passing zone to speed up)
Another pet peeve there, you're cruising along at 50 in a 55, then a passing zone comes up, and WAA friggin LAA, you speed up to 60. I FUCKING HATE YOU!
Ya know, come to think of it, just stay off my fucking roads altogether!

End of rant. (For now)
You don't shoot a man in the dick!

By the same token, I hate to try and pass a slow moving vehicle in the right lane when there's someone cruising right beside the person in the left lane.
Also, I just love it when I'm the first car behind a slow moving vehicle, and once a passing zone comes up, the car behind me decides to pull out to pass us both at the same time without giving me an opportunity to pass first. The laws of physics dicatate that by being impatient, you just probably kept me from passing at all. We really are living in a Me First Society.

No word from ANY bikers on this thread?
just got my license last fall...bought a little crotch rocket in February. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was little, but being on the road is a whole new experience!
I have been (so far) pleasantly surprised at the people who ARE considerate of me out on my bike...but yesterday, some asshole in a truck thought he could beat me at a 4-way intersection. I had gotten to the stop sign long before he did, but he didn't care. He almost took me out. Fkr.

Oh, and I always ride with long pants, boots, leather, gloves and helmets...no matter how hot the weather. I'd rather be a little warm and uncomfortable than the alternative...

Rock on Cryssie!
I actually have the motorcycle permit booklet sitting on my kitchen table right now. I'll probably take the test later this summer. Although other motorists not seeing me or just being a-holes does scare me.

That's where we used to go...Champs on N. Atherton is having them now (we think...there's a big sign at the bar that says bike nights are Wednesdays starting May 6, but we haven't made it out to one yet).Ron wrote:Quaker Steak in State College has been closed since last year. Boooooo for Quaker Steak closing down. Heard their liquor license was $1million. eep.
PA Roadhouse in Pleasant Gap has a pretty nice bike night too. That's on Wednesdays as well. Always a live band, tons of bikes, fun atmosphere.
