What a great day! Great turnout, great bands - I'm an EVK fan, for sure ... these kids have a real future in music, lots of talent, energy and stage presence - and the support from the public was amazing as always! We were proud to play a small role in the day. Hats off to those who put the event together, to all who gave of their time and talents and to 30 Something for always being there to host these events! The only personal regret I have was that I wasn't able to stay til the end and I missed FedUp and Samara - my taxi was pulling out, sorry Brian - but again, it was an awesome day. Thanks again for allowing us to be there! Much respect to everyone! r:>)
That's what she said.

Brian(Nakedtwister), Bob, Ron... nice chattin with ya all after the show; thanks for the kind words about the band...
JP... always a pleasure to make your aquaitance
Zilly... I wish we played more often at your place; u effin rock dude.
EVK... Id say def has something to add to the music community in a few years. I agree with Scott that the origin of the name was way too cool and that the parent of these youngster should still be smiling today...
Bad Daze... brought it; I mean can u say tight! The tightest coverband I have seen to date; love seein the Mesa rigs on stage; and Bags is the man on percussion. Consumate professionals,
This Calling... killer set except for the Maiden cover(LOL); we have now played with these guys 3x so we know whats coming. Lots o metal...
Slacker Theory... I was trying to eat at this point so therefore I didnt get to enjoy them as much as I should have... apparently the bar hadnt anticipated as many ppl ordering dinner as we did; sounded good from where we were sitting...
Fight With Sledgehammers... Crust punk loud. The dude with the 'hawk should talk more on the mic... hes a trip.
DSP... Great set; a real momentum builder IMHO... brought the crowd up on their feet and got the dinner party rollin. Cant put into words how the crowd after a semi long afternoon responded to these cats... nor how good they have gotten since our last gig with them
FEDUP... I was really impressed how brutal the grooves were with the new rhythm section; and the Randall/ENGL sound really lays some wood. Finally got to hear Been to Heaven again!!!!! Kick ass vox Sanchez!
Samara... I have seen every Rug band I think in the last 8 or so yrs. This is by far my favorite. Frank adds a lot to this with his smash your face in with a brick vocal approach and the band slams hard.
Thanks for the invite Brian and Rug!

I have to say that this was a very well organized show. Brian and the gang did an awesome job. All of the bands where top notch. Sorry I missed EVK. I really wanted to check them out. Glad to have finally seen The Embalmed. You guys scared the shit out of me. I loved it. Great musicians. Oh, and Jason. The name of the song was not " Venison ".
Great to meet all of you and spend some quality time with some great friends. On another note we had the chance to hear Hometown Rocker and the hour opened up with Fatal Mame and Rapid Fire. Hurricane was with us and heard War Pigs being performed and said it was a great version of it. Then we realized that it was his band Rapid Fire doing it years ago. Funny stuff.

Oh man, I really dug all of the bands that were playing this past Sunday. May I kiss ass (i.e., give credit)?
EVK - These cats were definitely fun. Dave, your daughter has serious star power. I was really knocked out by her confidence and stage presence, especially considering her age. I was wondering what their named stood for as well, and the Fat Vinny tribute is very cool.
Bad Daze - These guys were lame. They have this singer who thinks he's Super Man and was editting out the swear words in the songs, and they have a guitarist named old sKool. How dumb is that? Their drummer is obsessed with Alice in Chains, and their bass player's this skinny white boy who makes ultra long posts on Rockpage and decides on whether a thread "delivers." Plus, they covered Disturbed and Wheatus in the same set. How do you get that?
Slacker Theory - I have to give it up to my friends in this band. Steve has so much presence and their original stuff has awesome hooks. I keep saying that Reno really was the best thing to ever happen to Rob's playing, because his taste and pocket was awesome when he came back. Plus, I finally got to hear my new bass head out front, since Ryan used it as backline. Hopefully Dalton didn't die of dehyrdation afterwards. LOL
This Calling - I really like the metalcore sound, so it's awesome to hear a local band that can write and play it well. I've always loved these guys since the first time I heard them when they opened for us. Chris is easily one of the most underrated guitarists on local stages. He has taste, chops, and tone for days.
Fight with Sledgehammers - I don't listen to a lot of punk music, but this was definitely a cool experience. I feel a bit rude, because I met Danny real briefly in the day when he asked Jim and I what band we were in. I answered him and went back to my conversation with Jim, because I was currently stressing about something unrelated. He always seemed like a cool cat on here, and I was really impressed with his drumming.
Dick Shack Posse - Okay, these cats really impressed me. Tight, tight, tight! I love the "kegger in my backyard" stage presence, and I really dug the custom guitars. Once again, Andrea really impresses me. When I first met her, she didn't play a lick of music, but now, she's a really solid bass player. I was really digging some of her walking bass lines.
The Embalmed - This was the highlight of my evening, and I definitely know it was the highlight of old sKool's evening as well. These cats are the total package: killer riffs, great tone, slamming drummer (on a three piece kit, none the less), Greg wearing a bad ass mojo hat, and actual hooks in death metal songs.
FedUp - Wow, that's all I can say. The new rythmn section slams! This was the best FedUp performance I've ever seen. I just kept telling Brian and Scott how much the new line up kicks ass. They sound like a machine now!
Samara - When these cats were standing on stage, I leaned over to Jason (Bloodsong) and asked, "Is that Frank?" We figured that it was. My interest was piqued because I knew that Frank was a killer frontman from as far back as 969. These guys were pure aggression with some kick ass angular riffs. Frank delivered the goods as I had hoped.
All in all, with the exception of Jason's camera being stolen, it was a kick ass day. All of the bands rocked. People tried to mind the language, so Chad would have approved (didn't think to ask him though LOL).

"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
Congrats to Brian (Dirty Sanchez) & company for putting together a great benefit. My only complaint was that I couldn't have stayed to catch the last couple bands.
old sKool was here...

EVK... What can i say that hasn't already been said since they hit the stage on sunday?...simply amazing. The only complaint i have is that we'll all have to move in a few years because there won't be any work for us with them in town
Bad Daze... By far one of the tightest cover bands i've ever seen, and the original they opened with kicked hard...i really enjoyed their set
This Calling... First time i ever caught these guy...and i was very impressed....they have the metalcore thing on lock and i was really into their set
Slacker Theory... Yet again, another first for me. The covers were great, the originals were even better. The Sledge hammer cover was by far my favorite cover song of the day. The whole band is great, well except for that creepy drummer who kept winking at me...he's just ok
Fight With Sledgehammers... By far the most brutal crust punk band i have ever seen live. Two words Loud and Brutal...enough said
DSP... So anyone who knows me knows punk's just not my thing, but i love playing with DSP. Event though im not into punk they just do it so well
The Embalmed... HOOF AND! (ba na na da na na) HOOF AND! (ba na na da na na) Totally and absolutely brutal as always. There has never been i time i've seen these cats live and not enjoyed myself. Primal groove and riffage surrounded by killer leads and absolutely killer vocals.
Chad (aka Wayne Static) is truely a man possessed on stage and you guys have been nothing but inspiration to not only me but the whole local music scene. The only problem i have with you guys is that chad always forgets to sell me cd's and merch, and im not drumming for them
FEDUP... well...We were by far the heaviest band of the day....seriously, at an estimated 2.351 ton (including equipment) they only way we could be out weighed is maybe if Samara ate The Embalmed and DSP the EVK for dessert then got onstage and did some DethKlok covers
Samara... Amazing. I always love watching Samara. They slam so hard, the grooves are juicer than a rare steak, and frank is one of my favorite front men ever.
All in all a great day, a great venue, a great sound man/system, and hopefully we can get the scene together like this more often for good causes and, of course, just to party!

On a better note: We raised over 2500 dollars for the Reed Boys!
And that is the real reason to be happy about this event.
My final take on this event:
Its nice to be included in the "over the mountain" events and although it may sound like the ultimate suck off; I really appreciate the hospitality that was shown to my bandmates. My bandmates are my boys; and I would do anything 4 them.
To hijack this thread:
Another guy from this side of the mountain in a different band and I had a conversation about how much different the Altoona scene is vs this side of the mountain... I hope u guys dont take it for granted.
There will always be some competition between bands; some healthy; some not... its human nature 4 christs sake; but to openly see band guys from your scene waiting to see another band play 7 hrs later is pretty effin cool. Yes there are some cliques; but then again there is not... I hope u guys dont take it for granted.
Someone asked about where the scene is headin on another thread; without bands helping bands the whole thing is a whole lot of drama bullshit and a big waste of talent.
Cover bands are not my original band's competition; hell if anything hopefully that cover band really digs us and promotes us when possible. Why would any original band ever dis a cover band; when untimately its thru opening for cover bands we can grow our crowds in the healthiest manner? The Altoona scene should and can be healthy at some point with the proper attitude, lazers, and energy.
