Hair Force One?

Post by MusicfanEPa »

Hi. First time poster but have lurked here from time to time. I was wondering if anyone heard any news on whether Hair Force One was going to regroup soon? My wife and I saw them in Harrisburg a little under a year ago and loved them. I looked for their old site, but it seems to be down. Did some snooping around and found hairforceonerocks.com. Is that a new or old site? Sorry to be a pain. Just know most of you come from their area and might know more than I do. Thanks.

I believe that's been HF1's website for the past couple of years. Their singer, Victor Synn, frequents this site, so I'm sure he'll be able to get you the scoop.

I see Vic from time to time at my work. There are plans for HF1 to gig from time to time, but Vic will provide the details when they are ready to be disclosed.

I heard they were retooling to start a Bob Marley tribute band. They're waiting for their dreads to grow out a little before retaking area stages. j/k r:>)

The big hair, makeup and wild clothes is what made them stand out from other 80's cover bands.

So tell us what you really think of Hair Force ... did the band bang your sister or something? Love or hate what they did/do, they put asses in the seats and got lots of hard-working bartenders paid pretty well at the end of the night, which is what our job is when it comes down to it. r:>)

Hi everyone. First off, to Musicfan, I want to say thanks for the kind words and we hope to see you again soon.

As far as what's been going on with HF1? I guess it's probably time I break the silence from camp HF1. For about 5 months, we've been talking about doing HF1 the way quite a large number of fans wanted to see it done. But most impotantly, what all of us in HF1 wanted to see done for so long. So after a lot of long talks, soul searching, and mending bridges, Hair Force One is returning. One show this year. September 19 at 30 Something. More info on that later, but I wanted to take the chance to announce the lineup for this show. I couldn't be more proud and excited to announce that HF1 is:
Victor Synn- vox
Jimi Hatt- guitar, keys, vox
Michael J. Cox- guitar, vox
Iva Biggin- bass, vox
Hugh G. Rection- drums

That's right, the original HF1 is reuniting. Its been way too long and I am happy to be back with men I consider my brothers.

As for whitedevil, dude lighten the fuck up. You don't have to like what we do or what we stand for, but why bash a formula that worked? Rob said it best. We put asses in the seats. Every time. You got to love a place that has people crying unity among bands, yet has a goon like this talking smack about a band that busted its balls for months to get ready to even play a gig and even broke bones literally to put on a good show. Just like Judd Nelson said in the Breakfast club, "Show Dick some respect."

For Rob, Marshall, and especially Mistress, thanks for sticking up for us. It's greatly appreciated by me and all of HF1.

Hey Vic, no thanks needed. Our projects launched right around the same time all those years ago so we've kinda grown up together, so to speak. Thing is, unprovoked attacks like this are always rooted in jealousy so ... keep making 'em jealous, bro. Looking forward to your return to the scene. r:>)

I'll probably get ripped for this too, but I'm drunk and I don't care.... :D

I've seen HF1 a couple of times, and I was VERY impressed with the musicianship, and all the guys are very cool to talk to, but I just got the impression that they were "making fun" of the 80's metal scene. I grew up in that era, and as cheesy as some of it was, alot of good tunes came from that time. I don't think HF1 needs the wigs and stuff, because they can flat out play the music note for note, and Vic has one of the best voices going. I really don't think anyone goes to their shows because of the wigs and makeup, I think they go because they can hear all of the classic tunes from the 80's played almost to perfection. Hell, when they play Def Leppard, if you closed your eyes, you'd think you were at a DL concert.

The wigs and stuff just kind of seemed lame and unnecessary to me. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think you need the "gimmick" to put asses in the seats.

It's theatre, I think. Guys aren't really supposed to "get" costuming and such. I thought it was high-camp, like the rockabilly folks wearing D.A.'s and poodle skirts 50 years out of date.
I did the spandex thing for a short time, and I roundly recommended it to anyone who liked having sex with women... it wasn't my thing, and they dragged me into it kicking and screaming, BUT... the first night, two young ladies offered me their virginities (no, I didn't do it), the second night I was offered a threesome (did that, duh). I outgrew it very quickly, but it was fun!
Everybody has a band pic or two that they wouldn't show just anybody. I thought the grunge-flannel phase was just the stupidest goddamn thing ever... you couldn't tell the band from the cleanup crew, and everybody yammered about everything. Then everybody started wearing Jim Morrison beards... even Jim Morrison looked like a mega-douche with a bushy beard. Now everybody dresses like High School Musical. It's all just gift-wrap, you tear it off and throw it away.
HF1 are all, to a man, nice guys who have fun playing music and get paid. If they were dicks, it'd be a different story, but they're not.--->JMS

That's exactly what I thought as well.

I'm probably in the minority of musicians around, but I honestly believe that a band shouldn't look like four or five people who just walked out of Lowe's. Yes, the music should always be the focal point, but part of stage presence is the visual that you create. My philosophy has always been "You should look like you belong on stage." That can mean a number of things.

I agree that Hair Force One's use of wigs and costuming is part of the show aspect of what they do. It contributes to the total "show" experience, and helps take the audience to a different musical time period. It also plays on the perceived image of what the hair-band '80s was about, especially for younger fans who were children when that era was first happening.

I think it's all good. Live music is a performance art, and appealing to the visual side is a part of it. Hair Force One successfully merges good musical chops with the visual edge to provide a total image and show, and it works with the fans.

I dont like the bulk of 80's hair "metal" , but I can certainly agree that HF1 are good musicians! You wouldnt catch me dead in those clothes, but thats ME.
If those guys wanna do that, then shit, more power to them. Its not my place or anyone else's to tell them how to dress. Id rather see guys all decked out in 80's clothes playing music from that era...then the guys now with their hair gel wannabe GQ act trying to look slick & tough while playing music. I personally dont think playing on stage is a fashion show. Some do..again, more power to those people. Do whatever you feel you need to do. I wont let anyone tell me how to dress, and HF1 shouldnt either. I for one, would love to see the one-off show HF1 are gonna play. I saw them only once and was very impressed. They are certainly the best coverband around.
At the end of the day, It doesnt matter what I think or anyone else thinks. We all have different goals with music.

...does the term "Tribute" band come to mind at all? HF1 < 'Effin' Awesome. Just like back in the day when a BUNCH of tribute bands would frequent Aldo's and Claudio's places. Bands like Believer and ZoSo, not to mention Cold Gin (the reason I do what I do). I've scene bands look friggin' ridiculous in their get ups and some that didn't even fit the part...but were still kickin' ass in full clubs. Why? Because people like it. Just like I don't care how hokey a cover tune is or if it's "played out." People love familiarity. Don't get me wrong, current is cool...but when a band pulls out some old Ozzy or AC/DC, etc... People love it.....I can't wait for these guys to get back out there....Hey Vic, "Go For Soda"....

Expressing an opinion is one thing. Have at it. But this is a "local forum" for the most part and I just thought it was a bit over the top to specifically target peers and colleagues with heavy-handed criticism, especially with multiple posts. I got the point the first time. Opinion noted. Now, does this mean I get beat up now or do I just get another threatening PM? Let me know cuz I'm pretty sure my dad can beat up your dad. lol. Sorry, I'm a little dude, but tough guys don't intimidate me. My gf though ... now she scares me. r:>)
