How can i tell what year my strat is? I have no info on it ... and id like to know what year and what not. My guess would be researching the serial number. I dont know, dumb question i know. lol help me out here.

take the neck off. should be a year stamped inside the pocket and on the neck.

edit: someone experienced with those could probably figure it out without going through the above... thats how I would have to do it.

Check your serial number against this:

http://www.fender.com/support/usa_instruments.php

If its not a US model, look on the left for links to Mexican & Japanese serial numbers.

what's the country of origin?

Mexican serial numbers start with M

other that its a 2 letter code for anything since the 70's

S=70's
E=80's
N=90's
Z=2000's

next number should be the year

example, my 97 American jazz bass is N7xxxx

Now sure if japanese models follow this convention.

my '89 japanese jazz bass starts H0, so I guess they don't. At least not that old.

mine says ... MSN621928 on the neck. and it says made in mexico lol. so its gotta be a mexican strat. hmm...

Not sure about the "S" but its probably a 1996 (N6)
