Stoner/Doom metal band
Stoner/Doom metal band
Some friends and I are putting together a new side project. We want to do a lot of doom stoner metal in the vein of Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Sleep, Fu Manchu, The Sword, etc.
I just wanted to see if there are other similar bands out there or even venues that would be into that kind of stuff in the Altoona area.
We will be playing a TON of Black Sabbath. Not the worn down songs like Paranoid and War Pigs. Not that they aren’t good songs. They’ve just been played to death. We want to do the stuff you don't hear on the radio but people are still familiar with.
Just looking for some feedback. We start full rehearsals next week.

For me, stoner bands are a lot like jam bands: Some can be really good and hold my attention, but, unfortunately, many are boring and wanky as all hell. I love Kyuss, and I couldn't get Seemless's What Have We Become disc out of my player. If it's done well, I think a stoner band would be cool.

Thanks for the ideas guys. We don't want to do full 3 set shows since this is a side project and would love to jam with other bands in the area. I'll keep these bands in mind when we start playing out. So far, everyone I've talked to about this idea has been excited about it. It should be a lot of fun. I can't wait to get back out on the stage and kick some ass again.
Also Tony Iommi should be given a medal for doing so much with such a simple formula. It's been years since I messed around learning Sabbath songs and was surprised that most are technically basic. The hard part is giving it the right feel.
