I have this idea for a documentary and would like your input
about local music. I want to use it as a marketing/PR vehicle for Major Miner Records and the diamonds in the rough Collective. So far here are my ideas for who I want to interview:
*Bands-
I want to interview all types of local bands/musicians. Cover bands/O.G. bands/bands who do both. All genre's welcome. Solo acts welcome. Newbies and seasoned vets. I wanna hear from everyone.
*Promoters/Talent buyers.
*Venue Owners/Managers.
*Band Managers/Booking Agency's/Agents
*Fans/groupies/Band-Aids/Street-Teams
*Sound Technicians
*Roadies/drivers/security
*Tour managers
*PLCB
*Members of PACAG
*Live music advocates (e.g. Jim Price, Chris and Lori From UGTV, Crossfire and other internet radio station owners/dj's)
*Special events coordinators (Roar in the Mountains/Folkfest/Thunder in the Valley/The RR museum/The wing off/The Jazz concerts downtown..etc)
*Local music store owners and employees
*Family members (husbands/wives/kids) of musicians.
*Label owners/operators
*Studio owners/engineers
I am working on the list of topics I'd like the doc. to cover, but here are some things I definitely want to talk about:
Why do you do what you're doing?
What got you started doing what you're doing?
What do you love about it?
What do you not like about it?
What do you wish you could change about "the scene"?
What are your goals?
How did technology change what you're doing for the better? worse?
Why do you support the bands that you do?
What inspires/motivates you?
Like I said, these are just some of the things. Help me out. what would you like to see/hear addressed in a documentary about the local music scene? Who would you like to see/hear it from?
And Most importantly.................would you watch it????
Gimme some feedback/input please!

I think you need to hit on the roots of the underground scene,in the mid to later 80's to early 90's.
You would be surprised the things we did to get shows put on because we weren't old enough or not accepted to be in the bars.So we had to get to the alternative.
Renting halls, playing peoples yards or houses and etc.
I have so many flyers and posters from back in the day.
If you need me for an interview,i'm all yours

Great idea. I was thinking about this from your previous posts.
I would personally be interested in seeing:
1.) "new" band and "veteran" band. so we get an understanding of both how difficult it can be starting a new band in the area and yet still hear from some who have been successful at doing it for awhile. Shows both sides of the coin. I would dig that as it could offer some motivation for those getting started.
2.) Fans of local music. Everything from the bar crowd to the underage crowd and what they enjoy and what they look for in music.
3.) The members of the PACAG's opinons vs. PLCB laws. Though it would be great to watch, I would imagine you would have a difficult time getting an interview with the PLCB. (im not saying you won't be able to
)
4.) "Bar Scene" vs. "Underage/All Age Scene" would be an interesting comparison to make as well. By VS. I don't mean which one is better, just show how they are different outlets for both bands and fans.

Great idea Sanchez. Don't forget the musicians on the individual level either. There are tons of great musicians in the area, that don't really play out or in a band. Also, the craftsmen that build instruments, even the local music stores could use some advertisement. You could even get into other areas like up and coming musicians.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. All of you are welcome to be a part of this. Clete, I'll definitely be interviewing you about exactly those things, as well as DIY touring! This is something that everyone can contribute to. I think it will be a great way to get this area some long overdue attention to what we have here. We have a very great thing here, that most scenes don't. Unity! Sure we have some skeptics/cynics, but that's a necessary ingredient. They provoke thought, and keep us on our "A" game.
Hawk- I definitely want to hear from you. I also want to interview you regarding your band and also your drums.
Witchhunt- Did you see "My name is Bruce" yet? Great movie!

I think it would be an interesting watch - Dont forget to include Bloopers/Outtakes in the DVD version haha
You want it about the "Local" music scene = But you might have to breach out some out of the local area, as there arent many "labels" in altoona?
I can get in touch with one indie label that might give you an interview. He does his own songs, and runs his own label. And he does alot for CrossFire-Radio and Army people

I'm just keeping it real.....

How come I never see you at the meetings?
