I was a bit apprehensive when I first got into contact with Jim Allford, and I think he sensed that so he hooked our group up with the Sirius/XM radio DJ that Phil spoke of. Jim just connected our group with an old friend of his. I couldn't find where to submit music to Sirius/XM so yes, this was a connection that worked for us.

Genya Ravan, the Sirius/XM DJ who has QUITE the history in the "biz" herself, happened to really like our material so she picked a tune and played it along with giving our bio info to her listeners. That act alone deserved a visit last week from Phil and I. Thanks, Jim and Genya!

I would recommend Jim to anyone on here, but as he said so himself, he IS like Chef Gordon Ramsey! He will give it to you straight. You may NOT like what you hear, or you may take the constructive criticism for what it is worth coming from an industry vet such as Jim Allford. We happened to fit right into this particular station's format so it worked for us, and for the record, we haven't paid Jim Allford ANYTHING to date for his services.

It's totally understandable that some of us might not want what Jim Allford may have to offer, but we can't continue to assume that every outsider Rockpage is the enemy. Jimmie does have quite the history in the music industry and this IS ROCKpage so welcome to Rockpage, Jim Allford!

Some of us may not be trying to "tap into the masses" and that's not a problem, but others who visit this site may be trying to have some semblance of a living with consistent gigs and exposure in and outside of this area, and guys like Jim can help. Don't be afraid to jump in the water. It could be cold, hot, just right, or it may burn you like acid, but try not to pass judgment until you've at least gotten wet.

I hope this post finds a little peace for my fellow skeptics and cynics. I don't post here much at all, but I watch Rockpage because it has the potential to be the greatest local-music entity outside of the human realm! It's also great to see the other lurkers come out of the woodwork for the positive threads and support of fellow members!

For the record..screw the FCC and the media conglomerates that it enabled to take over the airwaves by monopolizing Mainstream Media. A mobile PIRATE music station is in order for the area just like in the movie "Pump Up The Volume"! Arrrgh!

Any band can send their material themselves to those places for consideration. Of course it helps to know someone affiliated with it, but its 100% possible to do it yourself. We are in the DIY age.

My band does pretty well with this concept.
We have move a few hundred records (vinyl) and at least a thousand cds by playing shows and mail order.
That's the whole thing in a nut shell.
PLAY AS MANY SHOWS AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN!!!!!!
We play whenever,wherever and whatever venue that will have us.
Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday and etc.
We also play bars,clubs,all ages,squats,skate parks and so on.

I am not really surprised by this thread. It has happened before. The problem with the scene here is that most people are so busy defending it that they never seem to think about how to change it, how to help it to grow, to nurture it.

Does playing at 15 different bars for drunks who would be there anyway qualify as a scene?

I don't know but I know that there are guys out there who thrive on it and that makes it good in my eyes.

I think Herman's audience might not be everyone on this board but there are those out there who really do "dare to dream"

I can't help but think that in the last three months we have lost Fat Vinny and Harry. Life is fragile guys and gals. Treat people like this is your last day on this planet.
