herman, you want people to take you seriously?

then don't be so fucking vague! so far all you have done is dodged coming clean about who you are and answered no questions anyone asked you seriously.

"i'm here to light a fire under people's asses"

what the fuck does that mean?

i asked what an indie label can do for a band and you never responded. like i'm going to trust someone who can't even answer my questions. in my opinion? your a waste! i wouldn't work with someone who can't even tell me their fuckin name. oh yea, and about how you won't come out to see my band because you can hear us online anytime? well, with people who have that kind of an attitude, i'll tell you where the scene is headed. up your fuckin ass.

have a nice day.

oh yea, my name's ryan. nice to meet you. douche.

My name is JIM ALLFORD and you can find me on Myspace....I've worked with some of the best in the music biz and there's NOT a perosn that doesn't know me. I worked with the producer of LIVE AND LET DIE by Paul McCartney during my internship. I have promo press kits from JET, NICKELBACK, and the list goes on and on. I have connections with booking agents, the major and indie labels....even though quite a few were canned over the recent years. I'm good friends with Andrew Gold, Liberty Divittio, and the list goes on and on. Tony Yayo is, also, a friend of mine....I worked w/ Jimmy Iovine; INTERSCOPE RECORDS, at a radio station during the '70's reviewing lp's there. Larry Fast and Denny Somach , also, worked there....we were very good friends. I guess that's it......so, now who wants to talk.......?

I never heard of 90% of those people, and the list goes on and on.

I haven't been following this thread. Just checked out a few snippits here and there.

Sounds like some Rockpagers are treating this like a political debate thread. :? I don't know Herman from Adam. Why all the hammering ?

Jim Allford,

It's good to meet you and know your name. I'm Josh Hicks. My friends call me JD. I don't know if you are a friend yet, but if you could inject some life into the music scene around here and help out some local bands, I would consider you one.

If you would have introduced yourself the way you did above, more would have listened, but the truth is many still wouldn't believe. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a laundry list of qualifications like that from drunk dudes at bars and I'm sure that ALL of the musicians here have heard the same more times than they can count. A resume like that is usually followed by "Man, I am gonna call my brother-in-law, (insert famous producer/famous band member/record executive here), and you guys are getting F*ckin SIGNED, MAN!" Followed by some of that dude's puke on my shoes.

The first time we heard it, our little rockstar hearts were exploding with joy. "Man!" we said to ourselves, "finally my unbelievable talent and musical genius will be RECOGNIZED!" Then we sat by our phone and waited...and waited...and...well you get the point. The second time someone like that came up to us we said, "We'll see." and then after that we started calling bullshit, bullshit. We now come off with comments like, "Oh man, don't bother recomending us to so and so buddy, we were already recommended to Sony last week and famous producer x last month." The kindest of us just say, "Really man, that's awesome! and keep saying yeah?, wow!, yeah? as we are tearing our shit down until they finally leave (sarcasm doesn't register with drunk people) Others of us, as you have seen, get hostile.

Do you see now why we have a chip on our shoulder about this stuff?

I would LOVE it if you were legit. My window of dreaming about getting signed has passed, but I think it would be awesome if a band like Slacker Theory would get a break like that. They are a TALENTED group, who consequently have a bass player named Ryan who, like me, has probably lived the scenario above about a million times already. Please don't feel bad or personally offended when all that frustration gets focused and directed at you.

I'm all about people doing good things for local music around here and I believe everyone else here is, too. That's why Jim Price gets so much love and respect. He has earned our admiration by being there to have a beer and listen to us even on nights that we suck and on the nights that we are at our best. I'd like to see someone step up and do something similar to what Jim Price does, but it takes lots of love and sacrifice and the ability to (I'm sure) put up with LOADS of BULLSHIT and LOTS of puke on your shoes.

why didn't you just say that when people asked? as hicks said, man, i've heard it all and i've only been playing out a year. we'll see, though. if you think you can make venues have bands. if you think you can make bar owners wanna pay those bands that usually have to build a following over a period of time instead of paying a d.j. 200 bucks to pack the house the first time they spin in it, then, yea. we'll see. if you think you can start an indie label that will give talented bands in this area like this calling and the embalmed signed and actually do something with it, then we'll see. i know people signed to indie labels. you know what has been done? not a damn thing. you may have been in the industry for however many years, but you are still being awfully vague about what you can "do" for the music scene. we'll see.

we'll see.

Didn't you guys see Hurricane and Jim Price say they know this guy and that he is the real deal.. guys that you all look up to know this cat.. and some of you have said some real dickheadish shit to say to someone, that maybe didnt want to just come right out with it. Maybe he wanted to do, what he wanted to do, with the ones he wanted to do it with, when he wanted to do it.

I don't know.. I say lets hear him out.. work with him.. mabe if we all put in some effort together.. we just might be able to make some really cool shit happen.. Listen to what Mr. Allford has to say, he has great points.

We all know that the scene has died around here, since stiffer DUI laws, smoking bans, and dying venues. Sure bands can build hype for themselves.. but lets think outside the box and build hype for the scene... btw, I hate when its called the scene too, ok.. but thats what it is..

I know of some people that got a little bit of exposure and then tured around and said that they were from a shit hole town in pennsylvania..I like altoona and the surrounding areas, its cheep to live here, its centrally located to all the major cities that are close.. I have friends and family here..and this area is beautiful throughout the seasons.. I am proud of this area, everything that has come and gone, and I am proud of my musical peers and all that they have done over the years.. There is a lot of talent around here..that is the scene right there.. hell I have told people to go see other bands, because they would like them.. I have come out to support. Not because I wanna be where all the people are.. because I have respect for other members of the musical community.. Yeah there are a lot of musical groups around here.. and the greatest part is that we are all good at what we do.. we need to use that as a tool to make things better... that is a start.. a mutal respect for the scene and what we are gonna do with it..

I wanna start right now by getting people fired up about it... Lets have a meeting.. Everyone come out.. every band that is connected with Rockpage, and the local area. I think everyone should get a chance to state their point as long as its done so in a positive manner.. If we think positive as a mass positive things will happen.. if we all bitch and moan, nothing will happen.. Would all the bands from the area come to a meeting like this? I think that Jim Price should host it.

I just think that we should stop pissin on eachother, and start talking, start sharing ideas, start sharing more shows, try to bring more people out of the woodwork... maybe there is someone out there that dont usually go out.. but they will come out to see you, cause they like your band.. lets start building something.. Sanchez is starting a label! Awesome! Lets just be nice to eachother for gods sake.. What I seen done to Jim I felt was wrong... and I felt I should say something.. this is what come out... maybe some of you think I am an idiot.. so what.
I'm sorry if I piss people off.. I dont mean to do that..I'm not an asshole, I try to remain respectful.. I just speak my mind, when I feel something is unjust.

So lets turn this thread into something positive, and start talking ideas, or we can all just ignore anything I've and others said.. and just go back to bashing the shit out of eachother.. it seems we all have gotten too good at that over the years here on rock page and thats a shame.. I'm gonna steal an Obama slogan... "CHANGE"

as an afterthought on my post earlier...

herman, i'd like to meet you. i'd like to see the stuff you've prepared. i'd like for you to come see my band. i'd like to know what you have to offer. i know you may have been busy last night, but the way your post was worded it sounded like you wouldn't ever come see us, just because we have our music on our myspace page.

i know bobby, and i like him. i take jim price's word on pretty much anything. but i also need to meet this cat for myself. for proof. i feel i'm a bit of a skeptic, well, seeing is believing and so far all i've seen is some guy who was extremely reluctant to admit who he was talk about basically nothing in particular about anything.

herman, you got my attention, brother, now let's see the goods.

I think I clicked on the wrong general discussion.. Should read
No answers just bashing!

1. No matter what music you proform
Were all in this togeither
2. why? its in are blood we live it,tasted it,
and if we dont do it. we go fe-n crazy
3. We need a venue that serves every one (yes.even country )
4. Herm is a straight forward dude . a liitle strange but arent we all(I am real strange  )
5. I will go see any band(If you get me in for free  )
6. Dirty- I would be like to be apart of your label
7. I will try to hook up any band,But the golden rule of bands must be honored/gig for gig /Try to match Cash for Cash
thats what i think makes the music go round and round
Its all what we make it . WE can hate on each other or we can play music with each other
Thats my thoughts

P.S. Does anyone out there have a license for booze and 10 grand
to give me
I will make it happen.
My dedication 16 years and counting

Quick note: A few of you really deep fried yourself good....then you expect me to work with you? Think about it. Who did you burn? The answer is no one but yourself. Your actions were nasty, rude, uncalled for, etc....and now your want to be friends and want me to do things for you.... I'm like a GORDON RAMSAY in the music biz....what comes around , goes around....full circle....something to think about....thanks to Bob, Jim Price, Phil and a few others for the respect....I appreciate it....you know where I'm at and you know how to find me....Peace

Hey Herman,do you happen to live in Dudley,Pa.? The reason I ask is about 6 or 7 years ago I was in a band called Driven and we played a battle of the bands in Martinsburg and we were approached by a guy(if my memory serves me right) by the name of Jim who gave us a business card that showed he was a rep from Attack Records-are you that person?

I met this dude once too, I assumed he was blowing smoke up my ass. More power to you if you're the real deal, but I lived in dudley for 20 years and its hard to imagine a high powered record exec coming out of there....

I don't really understand this attitude at all. Dudeman comes in here and starts preaching togetherness and understanding, in......between......about.......30.......thousand......periods...and now he wants to write everyone off that didn't bow down and slurp the wang.

Sorry man, but if everyone in here jumped on every "oppuritunity" that presented itself, in the form of innane rambling, we'd all have gone bankrupt 50 times over.

There's plenty of people here that have already said it, but we've all heard it before. Trust is a 2 way street, and its hard to get that going when you refused to answer a single question for 4 pages.

P.S. you also flat out lied about your name a couple posts in to the thread. I'm overflowing with trust! Where do I sign?!?!?!?
