Where do you think the music scene is headed in Altoona?
Should I stay or should I go? [The Clash!] I will never return again to this site if I do decide to leave....the only reason I came back to this site was because I was asked to by some good people that wants to make things happen for the area ......need more be said? Peace...to all....... PS: I could bring alot of new people to this site, but should I? I question that! I know they can expect alot of grief, ego's, b.s., and more....is it worth it? I question myself and question YOU!

just my opinion .. dont leave rockpage cause of one or two people asking a few questions. and i dont think anyone was out of line by the way, ive seen way worse....you came in as a newbie and people have questions, thats all. but what do i know, right? i can only count to fourHerman wrote:Should I stay or should I go? In my earlier post, I listed about 5 bars that no longer have music. And that is just in the last 2 years. Ask Hurricane Bob or JP about how many bars closed over the last 10 years. They probably could come up with a sad list.
We need to replace the venues that had LOCAL LIVE MUSIC.
Forget bringing in the "big boys", we need more bars that will book local bands.
So we need about one million buckeroos. Buy up about 5, 6 or more local bars and start booking all the great bands this area has.
There is no shortage of good music in this area, it is a shortage of venues for them to play.
OH, also a million to pay off the PLCB, to keep these venues from being fined to death.

?? That was Kaylas post, i still don't have a clue Herman who you are.Herman wrote:Thank you Bob....I really appreciate that coming from you....we had our time too, huh? Best Regards and peace bro....
Here on Rockpage anonymous posters don't get no clout around here.
This bizz has made me thick skinned and i don't trust anyone, ive seen to many naive bands get taken easily, nothing against you Herman. Now just so your name isn't Mike brown its all good.

Regardless of what my name is, who cares? The real meaning is about the music.....I came from A-town area quite a few years ago and laid back for alot of years...and stayed away from Rockpage for alot of years because of "ALOT OF NASTY PEOPLE HERE".....my main concept is to help this area....not to burn anyone and bring good to the area...I could careless what you might think about me, but it's NOT my problem...TRUST is a BIG word.....but look around, there are some good people here that want to things and make things happen....it's NOT about me, it's about YOU and the area....peace........

Like we stated before on a whole other note...sometimes people come to this forum, and they don't know what the local customs are and all, but that doesn't mean that they are instantly evil and have ill intentions. Why do some new members get treated like Nigerian Scammers? I think that a of of great ideas and points were stated here. I hope you stick around, Herman. We could probably all learn a thing or two from you, and maybe you can not take some of the natives too seriously. You also speak like a guitar player jams!

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly you aim to do. You sound like a politician trying to get votes. I want all good things for this area, but what the hell are you getting at? Still haven't given us a name, what you do, what you would do for the scene, how you would do it, why you would do it....People like Hurricane Bobby and myself play all the time, trying to make this a better scene. We bust our asses, play hard, and get paid a little bit for what we do. But you know what, we do it anyway because we love to play, period! People like you come on here, you're not even a musician, and try to tell us what's up with music. Well we know what is up with the scene, and we bust our asses for this scene. So don't come on here, thinking you have any answers for us! Because you don't have any answers for shit...how do I know this? Because you won't even give us a fucking name. Something as simple as "Hello, my name is John." Nope, can't get that from you, it's just a run about typical bullshit from a non-musician type acting like a fucking ticket to success. Well, you're the reason we don't trust people that come out of nowhere. I don't believe a word you say, not 'till I get a name, or some kind of reason you come here. Until then, I won't eat these words. Have a good day,Herman wrote:Regardless of what my name is, who cares? I'm amazed how some people on this site are so quick to bash and trash you while they themselves have major league attitudes. I question, who is that helping and hurting? I must admit, it makes ROCKPAGE look really bad, plus, it doesn't help any of the artists/bands are really trying to break out in the area. I don't care if you like me or not, but I know I'm NOT the one with the problem. I know people that could make your head spin, as per does Jim Price. Jim Price and I go back quite a few years and he knows me well and he knows that I'm good to my word. You need or want something, most of the time I can get it at ease, but things don't happen over night. Man, some of you only wish you could get airplay over Sirus/XM.... now, take a look hard look at the area and yourself. Need more be said?

I will be letting everyone in on The Indie Label that a friend and I are strting here in a few weeks. We have a few details we need to hash out at our next meeting, but I promise we're not doing this to do anything but get exposure for a lot of talented bands in the area. Every band/promoter/venue/studio/roadie/groupie/band-aid/hell even drummers are invited to be a part of this. I want it to be more of an "Artist Collective" than just a label. We're gonna help bands get recorded, get merch, get shows, even help them book their own tours. we will make compilation cd's and dvd's without charging the bands tons of money to be on the compilation like some labels do. I also have a good idea for a documentary in the works that will help by being a marketing vehicle for the whole collective. As of now the working name is:
"Major Miner Records" (anyone get the reference there?), and the collective will be called: "Diamonds in the Rough Collective".
We have already secured some distro. channels and I've got a top notch internet marketing team out of Colorado at my disposal to help with the digital/download-able stuff, because let's face it, if you're gonna sell any music, it better be available on I-tunes and the like.
That's just a little about what we've been working on. I will let everyone know more after the 17th.

People just want you to introduce yourself man. Someone just tried to scam every band on this site a few months ago. No harm in knowing who you are, right? The anonymity is kinda sending up a red flag is all. The people on this board are very tight knit, and yes even a bit dysfunctional, but with a common bond, our love of music. we have all chosen to make music a big part of our lives. Some people feed their kids with it man. You sound like you have some great ideas, but nobody really knows what you want to do exactly, or are you just telling us what to do? Just formally introduce yourself and you'll see the guard drop.

Herman,
If you want to start your own label or business for that matter, you will need to be able to handle WAY more pressure and abuse than you have received here. If you are so eager to quit this site after a few days and a few less than supportive comments, I don't think that I would want to be one of the bands on your label. You sound like your heart is in the right place, but I think the issue is that you haven't really shown any substance to your claims. I'm not saying you can't do what you plan to do, what I WILL say is that to do what you plan to do, you've got to be willing to do it no matter what anyone says or you will simply sputter out like so many other well-meaning people. I really wish you the best, but the first step to building the good faith of the people on this site would be to stay here and not be threatening to leave after having taken a few shots. Musicians in this area are a jaded group. Many of us have been screwed over by well meaning people too many times to count in our musical careers. Forgive us for being a little bit hesitant.
